I like Hoppe''s bore solvent as a cleaner. As a protectant. I like the Hoppe's gun oil. To do a thorough cleaning of the crud that builds up in the action, I use automobile brake cleaner in the spray can. I just flush out all of the crud and then go over it with the Hoppe's. For the stock, I use Johnson's paste floor wax. For the outside of the gun, I use a micro-crystalline wax called Renaissance Wax. it is available in many fine furniture stores. It is a bit pricey but you use very little so it goes a long way. Museums use it on their metal surfaces such as guns, armour, swords, knives, etc

Hoppes Bore Solvent followed by a light spray of Rem Oil has done quite well for me. Don't even think about 3n1 or WD-40. I'd rather pour crankcase oil on my gun than those two. You can get the Hoppes and Rem Oil at any WalMart.

Remoil can do it all for a .22 gun, unless you have shot a few bricks of low end .22 and then you would want a bore cleaner for the barrel.

We use the old stand by 3 in 1 oil and an old t shirt. If the blueing on the gun has begun to wear off then you need to take it to a certified gunsmith.
