Because he knows that Giuliani is the only republican candidate that has even a chance of beating Hilary Clinton (the only democrat that has the experience to win AND the support to do so) and since it is almost a given that she is going to have the dempcratic nomination, and since Robertson is staunchly ANTI-democrat, he knows that the only hope for the republicans is Giuliani so, despite their philosophical differences, he sees Giuliani as a better choice than Clinton and thus enodrses him.

I'm more mad at Rudy for wanting the job bad enough to kow -tow to the religious right and the gun crazies to get it Giuliani was born and raised in the center of the universe for crying out loud, he doesn't need the approval from those who live on the fringes in order to be nominated

He is supporting him for the same reason that he, and those like him, supported Regan. They are far more likely to wring concessions out of a Republican than a Presedent who is a member of the Democratic party and so would rather have a more liberal Republican who is beholden to them than a democrat who can ignore them.
Also, Giuliani's constant reminders of 9/11 and the supposed war of terror work more to further the Christian Zionist stance than any other of the candidates.

He believes Giuliani's stance on terror is more important to the country than are Rudy's more liberal stances on other subjects.

Because Pat Robertson is a hypocrite, and there are no fundies running. He has to stake his claim somewhere. He probably just drew a name out of a hat and pulled RG's out.

Being that Rudy Guiliani is probably the only Republican running that could beat the top Dems it is probably the best choice.
