What a truly amazing story, I really enjoyed reading this one, pity the old soldier did not get to be reunited with the bag. Anyone have any similar stories ?

Some great stories coming out here. The story of the Ring reminded me of this one about a Royal Navy sailor killed 98 years ago and his ring coming back

What a great story. The closest I can come is this: Growing up, my father never talked about his participation in the Korean War. He had discussed a few events with my mother, but even she never spoke about it. When my father passed away a few years back, my brother and I were going through things, figuring who would get what, and what we would send to Aunts and Uncles. I was looking at a framed picture and I felt a lump between the picture and the backing. I took it apart and found one letter that he had written to my mother, never sent and brought back from Korea with him. After some debate, my brother and I took it to my mother, who up until, never knew of its existance. It was his account of his part in the retreat from the Chosin Resevoir. He wrote it shortly after he was transfered to a hospital ship anchored off the port city of Hungnam.
He was with the 1st Marine Division, and the picture we took it from was a picture of my father (in his uniform) and mother holding my brother shortly after he was born. My brother still has the letter.

About as close as we have come is finding some old letters my Grandfather wrote my Grandmother during WWII.
This a great story though. See, were finding new stuff all the time.

The upcoming movie Closing the Ring is supposedly based on the real event of an Irishman finding a wedding band from the wreckage of a U.S. WWII bomber and going to the U.S. to personally delivering it to the woman whose name was on the band.
