As thinking sentient logical beings, how can we explain the lack of advancement in morals. In reality, it seems we are moving backwards. As a Christian, I would see this as prophecy. But how do evolutionists view this issue? Why hasn't our morals kept up with our intelligence? Doesn't it seem strange that we (as a species) seem to be reverting to more animalistic behavior rather than advancing to some sort of superior set of standards?

tamyp; I do know quite well what evolution is. This question is more philosophical which is appropriate for R&S. If I truly wanted a biological breakdown of evolution, I would go to the science section. I am referring to the degenerative nature of our society. The increasing loss of morality. I hope I cleared that up for anyone having trouble thinking outside the box.

Evolution is simply an organism adjusting to its environment. You seem to have a serious misconception about evolution. It does not mean that organisms are moving toward some notion of perfection.

If for instance our environment changed to a state where we were forced to live outdoors in the midst of a new ice age those traits that keep humans alive in cold climates would become dominant. We would evolve to suit our new environment and perhaps look very much like our distant ancestor.

Or, if we couldn't adjust quickly enough we would die out. That is evolution.

This has been the single most fascinating thing for me in coming here. I had no idea there were so many people who truly did not have even a basic grasp of what evolution is.

The essential ingrediant in all athiestic thinking is a downloading of a flawed software that allows anything to exist without God. However the down side of this "download" is the acceptance of verifiable falsehood. (by breathing and living in this world the existance and preemminance of a Creator is evident.) When facts become secondary to a favored mindset, then any fact which controverts such mindset can also be easily dismissed.

Almost everytime I turn on the television I see de-evolution in progress, and man turning into a primal, evil and moronic being. The media has done more to destroy the moral fabric of this country than any other force.

There is no such thing as de-evolving. Evolution is not a linear process.

Some organisms stay exactly the same for millions of years though, or, say, the same as they were in the Bronze Age...

Our culture is in fact dissolving under pressure from within, particularly the cultural slef-hatred or self-contempt that bcame epidemic with urban liberals beginning in the 70's. It seems to originate with jewish "radicals" from the late counterculture era.

Evolution is not about getting worse or better. It's just about being compatible with your environment.
