Some guy that walks, talks, eats and drinks with Jesus and witnesses first hand his miracles still doesn't believe Jesus could rise from the dead....and he is given ample proof.
2000 years later, those of us who have never walked, talked, eaten, drank or saw jesus do a miracle are told we are going to burn in a fire lake for not believing.
why are we asked to believe with more conviction than his own disciples...all along with less proof?

It all has to do with God's twisted sense of humor.
Think about this, which is even further back:
Why was eating from the tree of knowledge of Good and Evil a sin? If you didn't know the difference between Good and Evil before you ate of it, would you know it was wrong to not follow orders in advance or only in hindsight? Did God understand this little dillemma or does being the first father acquit Him via presumed ignorance? But in hindsight, now that He knows better, does it make sense to revise things the way he did or would some other solution make more sense?

so thomas made one doubting remark one afternoon and for all eternity, he's known as "doubting thomas". peter, on the other hand, denied he even knew Christ three times, and he gets to be the Rock. i motion that we start calling him "denying peter" for at least a hundred years and give thomas a bit of a break.
as far as your question goes, here's an honest answer. i am a very skeptical person. i believe none of what i hear and only half of what i see. and yet, i find that i when something really matters, the proof presents itself again and again without much striving or straining on my part. thomas got what he needed. peter got what he needed. i get what i need. i can't speak for anybody else, but this is what i've found to be true.

Thomas, like others Jesus "travelled" with were personality facades; in short, a symbolism of a group of personality's; the idea was to allow many questions to be answered in the symbolic form as if many such as you and I were asking them.
Thomas represented many and not one.
Baffled?
Don't be, the "bible" was a not a Literal event, it was a spiritual one and this should not be a surprise to many.
Jesus represented Truth, Truth in the self, truth in You. Jesus was the first incarnate to reach Gods level of awareness and his entire story to humanity was a road-map to God via a 'Spiritual highway".
There were a handlfull of "authors" Published within the Christian bible, yet, there were hundreds of authors whom witenessed Jesus works and they were LEFT OUT of the biblical recordings as their works did not fit in to Rome's Agenda of Jesus selling; this should also be of no surprise to biblical scholars whom reconize truth.
In closing, Jesus used the character of Thomas to teach a broad area of lessons, Thomas, like other physically-fictional personalities was the one character whom asked many questions allowing the reader to see where it was all about, a two sided story is better than being preached to.
Some will cling to all things being literal and physical and in this there is little truth.

You won't go to hell for not believing. I believe most Christians have misinterpreted scripture. You will go to spirit prison (purgatory) right after you die until the resurrection. The majority of people on earth (Christian or not) will go there and it will pretty much just be like this earth (as far as my limited understanding takes it). Basically it will be anyone who has sin they didn't repent of. After the resurrection, you will receive some degree of glory depending on your life here on earth AND the choices you make in spirit prison. That's my take on it though. I am fully capable of admitting I may be wrong.
ps. sorry for making you blush about Uranus' penal system ;)

The thing is, they all believed and Thomas would NOT believe the others after THEY had seen JESUS.
HE believed when he saw for himself though, and they all were willing to die HORRIBLE deaths for what they believed. The church was persecuted for centuries even after roman catholicism started. Many believed what the Apostles preached because of the manifestation of GOD'S SPIRIT.
GOD'S SPIRIT is still real I know from experience.

He gave proof to Thomas yes, but I think you did not read on. Thomas did believe after seeing, by saying "My Lord and my God". What did Jesus say to Thomas after He showed Him the scars from the nails in His hands and feet?
"Thomas, you believed after seeing me, BLESSED IS HE WHO DID NOT SEE AND BELIEVES"
There is nothing else to be said

I don't know if you are a christian or not, but one thing is for sure, you can't stop talking about God and Jesus. I love Jesus, and I don't talk about Him nearly as much as you do. Could it be, you are drawn to Him?

--Because he was weak in true faith based on what Jesus taught, as Jesus said very directly to him:
(John 20:27-29) . . .Next he said to Thomas: “Put your finger here, and see my hands, and take your hand and stick it into my side, and stop being unbelieving but become believing.” 28 In answer Thomas said to him: “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him: “Because you have seen me have you believed? Happy are those who do not see and yet believe.”. . .
And also to the rest apostles who took on their hardhearted attitude and not believe Mary Magdalene who had more faith than all of them put together, simply because she believed in what Jesus promised:
(Mark 16:9-14) 9 "After he rose early on the first day of the week he appeared first to Mary Mag′da·lene, from whom he had expelled seven demons. 10 She went and reported to those who had been with him, as they were mourning and weeping. 11 But they, when they heard he had come to life and had been viewed by her, DID NOT believe. 12 Moreover, after these things he appeared in another form to two of them walking along, as they were going into the country; 13 and they came back and reported to the rest. Neither did they believe these. 14 But later he appeared to the eleven themselves as they were reclining at the table, and he reproached their lack of faith and hardheartedness, because they did not believe those who had beheld him now raised up from the dead. . ."
True faith is based on the Bible and Jesus teachings , which many ignore today so in fact they become hardhearted in trust!
We have more proof in that we have the entire Bible record, so as Jesus said faith is not based on things people see, but things that are reported as true and with the validity that they are true. Did he not say to Thomas:
(John 20:29) 29 Jesus said to him: “Because you have seen me have you believed? Happy are those who do not see and yet believe.”
An example of true faith was from an non-Isrraelite who just heard about what God did to the nations who were against him note please her zeal of faith:
(Joshua 2:9-11) . . .And she went on to say to the men: “I do know that Jehovah will certainly give YOU the land, and that the fright of YOU has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land have become disheartened because of YOU. 10 For we have heard how Jehovah dried up the waters of the Red Sea from before YOU when YOU came out of Egypt, and what YOU did to the two kings of the Am′or·ites who were on the other side of the Jordan, namely, Si′hon and Og, whom YOU devoted to destruction. 11 When we got to hear it, then our hearts began to melt, and no spirit has arisen yet in anybody because of YOU, for Jehovah YOUR God is God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath. "
TRUST , FAITH, in true testimony about God is where faith comes from , not some pie in the sky idea of blind faith!
Note were faith comes from:
(Romans 10:16-17) . . .Nevertheless, they did not all obey the good news. For Isaiah says: “Jehovah, who put faith in the thing heard from us?” 17 So faith follows the THING HEARD(or read, my caps). In turn the thing heard is through the word about Christ."
--And of course the rest of true testimony in the Bible!
