if indeed what your baby has is the flu, antibiotics wouldn't help him. antibiotics treat bacterial infections, not viruses and the flu is a virus.
as for giving him a nebulizer, you need to check that with the child's doctor, you can overdose with that stuff so check first.

it's not likely the flu. it can last a week or two, but after that the baby should build up immunities and not get it anymore. make sure you only use the nebulizer as directed by your doctor. you don't want to hurt the baby.

antibiotics don't treat the flu, so he/she may have had something else to start with. if they're really congested you could try some nasal saline. i think you should go see the doc again and see what they think. there could be something more going on.

A child of this age has not had influenza and survived. Antibiotics have no effect on influenza which is caused by a virus and not bacteria. Antibiotics have no effect whatsoever on viruses. I would question my GP or doctor as to his diagnosis, he sounds pretty incompetent to me. Why are you "nebulizing" a child of this age? Sounds to me like your child has CFS, go back to your doc and tell them you are unhappy with this and are not prepared to put up with being fobbed off with antibiotics. You have every reason to be concerned, fight for the right treatment for your child. Good luck x

Never do anything to babies without the Doctor's supervision or directions. Never give over the counter decongestants without a doctors orders. Babies can easily be over medicated and get sick or die from such medications. Be careful and only follow the doc's advice.
