Now I know that there are loads of people on this site that think they have OCD when they don't and I could definitely be one of them, but I'm still wondering.
I do really stupid things like make sure the bathroom mirrors and rugs are aligned perfectly and make sure the toilet's shut--I can't go to bed or leave the house w/o doing this.
I always check to make sure lights are off, the stove is off, etc.
I make sure numerous times that doors are locked--I can't sleep unless I've checked them at least 4 times each.
I do and say certain things a certain number of times--for example, I have to count to 48 before stepping out of the shower or else I think I'll slip and fall (I know, weird).
I have to say certain things to certain people. For example, if I don't say goodnight to someone, something bad will happen to them and I won't see them in the morning.
Finally, my room is rather messy, as I am NOT a clean freak, but I have a tendency to hold onto unnecessary things.
What do I do?Thank

P.S. I took an evaluation sort of thing online and it said that I have moderate OCD. I took a couple and they all said pretty much that. I don't want to talk to my parents about it (I am a teenager) b/c I mentioned it to my mom once and she told me my room wouldn't be so messy if I had OCD. It would be embarrassing to talk to them about it...should I talk to a guidance counselor or the nurse or something?

If you can't stop all of what you listed voluntarily, then yes, you have OCD.
Just keep yourself from not doing all of the above, and if you can, it's just a habit, not an obsession.
ps- some of these traits are an indicator of early schizophrenia, and if you can't avoid them you should seek mental health counseling.

Are we twins? I do the EXACT same things. EXACT. The touilet, the stove, things unplugged so they wonb't start a fire and then one day (and this was the really bad one, the closest I have come to full blown OCD) I was HALFWAY to work when I realized I had forgotten to check to see if the microwave and over were unplugged. yes, I drove all the way home and went in and checked...they were! The thing is, I KNOW these things were done but I doubt myself and my memory so I go back to check some days...I drive myself crazy.
I don't have people around but I think something will go wrong unless I kiss her before I leave the house...
IMO, we are BORDERLINE OCD, not yet completely there.

based on what you've said I would say you have a mild OCD. You can force yourself not to do these things by trying to ignore your urges.Obsessions are defined by:
Recurrent and persistent thoughts, impulses, or images that are experienced at some time during the disturbance, as intrusive and inappropriate and that cause marked anxiety or distress.
The thoughts, impulses, or images are not simply excessive worries about real-life problems.
The person attempts to ignore or suppress such thoughts, impulses, or images, or to neutralize them with some other thought or action.
The person recognizes that the obsessional thoughts, impulses, or images are a product of his or her own mind, and are not based in reality.
The tendency to haggle over small details that the viewer is unable to fix or change in any way. This begins a mental pre-occupation with that which is inevitable.
Compulsions are defined by:
Repetitive behaviors or mental acts that the person feels driven to perform in response to an obsession, or according to rules that must be applied rigidly.
The behaviors or mental acts are aimed at preventing or reducing distress or preventing some dreaded event or situation; however, these behaviors or mental acts either are not connected in a realistic way with what they are designed to neutralize or prevent or are clearly excessive.
In addition to these criteria, at some point during the course of the disorder, the sufferer must realize that his/her obsessions or compulsions are unreasonable or excessive. Moreover, the obsessions or compulsions must be time-consuming (taking up more than one hour per day), cause distress, or cause impairment in social, occupational, or school functioning.[1] OCD often causes feelings similar to those of depression.

omg it's TOTAAALLY FINE!!! i mean i do the SAAAME thing..well not the 48 thing which i will admit is strange, but everyone has strange habits, i mean i for one have to make sure everyone's eyebrows are in perfect alignment, or else i can'r stand it, and sometimes i actually reach over to fix it...lol
but don't worry, your still a teenager, if you do have OCD it will develope, and your mom is right, you can't have a messy room if your OCD, because i too have a messy room! the mess would bother you. don't worry about talking to anyone about it, because it's not really a big deal, i mean EVERYONE has a BIT of OCD in them! now if you had a seperate plate for each type of food, like MONK, then you'd have OCD...go to youtube and type in MONK..thats what an OCD is!

I do the exact same things as you, I say certain things a certain amount of times, I have to touch a lamp a certain amount of times. I've been told to go to the psychatrist to see if I've got OCD, but from what I've read, I think I might have it. The best thing to do is to see a professional and get it sorted out before it gets any worse.

You sound like my girlfriend who has been diagnosed with OCD. She has certain things, like the bed or the curtains in the shower that she constantly straightens. She wipes counters that haven't been used, and she does it at the same time everyday. Her biggest secret is the mess she keeps in the drawers of the house, because everything else is spotless. If it concerns you, there are medications, but she is fine with me medicine free...i like the clean house :)

You definitely have a treatable psychological condition. You're quite ill. Go straight to the psychiatrist and have them test you. They will be able to tell you what your diagnosis is and recommend medications and therapy to make you feel better.
Oh, and a terrific resource: www.nami.org. It'll help find a dr, pay him, and you can talk with other people who have similar problems.
Best wishes.
