1Ti 6:15 Which in his times he shall shew, [who is] the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords;

Although I have never heard the Pope called a potentate, almost any ruler can be called a potentate.

A potentate is simply one who has the power and position to rule over others.

It is true that God has absolute power and position to rule over others but God has also given the role of ruler to the leaders of our countries.

With love in Christ.

Potentate is more of the title or role the Pope fulfills.

The pope uses a lot of titles, but I'm not aware of this one. What is your source?

I agree with those who identify the definition of the word potentate – that is why they call him potentate, simply because he is the "ruler" of the church (as they see it).
However, I do not believe that there is anyone who should be ruler of the church except for Jesus Himself. The Bible is clear on the subject that JESUS our GREAT HIGH PRIEST and we have direct access to God through him. We do not need to go through a man. (Hebrews 4:14-16)
And just for the record, Jesus is alive, not dead. :) If you don't believe me and you REALLY want to know – ask Him to reveal himself to you. I guarantee you that He is no respecter of persons! (Acts 10:34) 😉

He is a stand-in until Jesus comes back considering that jesus is dead, and has as much chance of coming back as JE Hoover i think he is quiet content where he is.

don't be afraid of words.

The Catholic Church views the Bishop of Rome as the Earthly leader of the Church.. that is all.
