If it were used I would choose either:
Corvette preferably the ZO6 model
Toyota Supra, Nissan Skyline, Mazda RX7
Nissan 240SX, Acura Integra Type R, or Honda S2000
Brand New I would Choose Between:
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution or Subaru WRX STi (06 or 07 brand new models)
Nissan 350Z
Honda Accord EX-L V6 6 speed Coupe
Subaru Legacy 2.5GT Limited
Mazda Speed6
Acura TSX 6 spd MT
Chevrolet Impala SS
Nissan Maxima SE
If I wanted AWD I would choose the STi unless I need more room then I would choose the Legacy 2.5GT Limited which has the STi motor tuned down to 250HP, If I wanted RWD I would choose the 350Z unless I need more space then it would be the IMpala SS. And finally if I wanted FWD I would go with the Accord EX-L Coupe!!
GOod Luck

Buy a late model Commodore, Falcon or something similar. Some people give em crap but at the end of the day, they are big strong cars, with plenty of power for when you need it. The fuel comsumption on the newer models isn't as bad as it used to be. They're safe, and the engine will last well over 300,000kms if driven sensibly. Plus parts are cheap as. And you can get a really nice looking rig for $30,000! Buying an old car will just cause you headaches unless you are dedicated and passionate about the car.

2008 Buick LaCrosse CXL. OK, so it's a granny car. But guess what? It beat out the Toyota Camry V6 is reliability. So sayeth JD Power & Assoc. Plus, what most people don't know is that it has an avalible 220 watt 9 speaker stereo that rocks! It's amp'd with Monsoon amps. Really nice I tell ya. Anyway, if ya laugh at my choice, I will hunt you down and drive over you with my Buick! Ha Ha!

Ideally: a really nice restored 68-73 gto or chevelle for that price. something with a mean 396 or 454 with a supercharger.
Reality: top end accord or something similar with good gas mileage.

I would try to look at the Saturn Aura or Chevrolet Malibu. They both have amazing styling and I would prefer to give my money to GM rather than Toyota or Honda. My third choice would be the Ford Fusion followed by the Saturn Sky.

I would rent one, like from a U-Haul place,or whatever is in the yellow pages. If you just want to know the brand, probably a Chevy,Pontiac, or Ford. And I guess I'll just have to give the whole amount to the rental agency and let them figure out the return date.
