As much as I know, LCDs are not good at good contrasts. And blacks have a hazy tone. CRT is very good at contrast and black. What about Plasma and new technology OLED?

as far as oled goes, i dont know that much about the specs on that technolgy as far as i know that is still acouple of years away before it comes readily available to the mainstream and it will be expensive. as far as black level goes. plasma is the leader in that area. before it was the crt tube tvs that were the standard to meet. well plasma has exceeded that. they prduce the richest natural color because they can producd the best black levels. and it is not so much about the contrast ratio. caontrast ratio is the mesured difference between how deep the black a tv can get and how bright white a tv can get. a plasma and a lcd both might have a 10,000 to 1 contrast ratio, but since lcds are brighter thats how they achieve the high contrast ratio. the lcds have been made brighter with brighter lamps to acheive the high contrast ratios that plasmas have had for years, but plasmas produce theirs in the black levels where the colors are more natural and vivid. the lcds may be brighter, but but the brighness makes colors look whiter or washed out. its the deep black levels of plasmas that make the more natural vivid colors. well good luck hoped i helped.

From what I can tell, CRT is still the 'best' - but you cannot get these above 35" or they are so heavy you need a crane to move them.

Plasma seems to be the technology that has the best black levels and good contrast.

According to the December 2006 issue of Consumer Reports, the best technology is front projection DLP!

Good luck!
