The serpent in Genesis chapter 3 was Satan. Satan was either appearing as a serpent, possessing the serpent, or deceiving Adam and Eve into believing that it was the serpent who was talking to them. Serpents / snakes do not possess the ability to speak. Revelation 12:9 and 20:2 both describe Satan as a serpent. “He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years” (Revelation 20:2). “The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him” (Revelation 12:9).
While the Bible is not clear as to whether or not the serpent stood up or walked before it the curse, it appears likely that like other reptiles it probably did walk on four legs. That would seem to be the best explanation of Genesis 3:14, "So the LORD God said to the serpent, ‘Because you have done this, cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life.’” The fact that the serpent was cursed to crawl on his belly and eat the dust of the earth forever is also a way if indicating that the serpent would be forever despised and looked upon as a vile and despicable creature and an object of scorn and contempt. Why did God curse the serpent when He knew that it was actually Satan who had led Adam and Eve into sin? The fate of the serpent is an illustration. The curse of the serpent will one day be the fate of Satan himself (Revelation 20:10; Ezekiel 28:18-19).
Satan tempted Eve the same way he tempts all of us...with subtle lies and deceit as to what God really wants and whether or not we should obey Him. He leads us to believe that we can be like God.

Where in the Bible does it say Satan tempted Eve? It was a snake that tempted her, not Satan.
Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made...

If you read the account, Satan's plan was for Adam and Eve to eat from the tree of knowledge, and then from the tree of life.
This would have created a dilemma for God, cause on the one hand to eat of the tree of knowledge brought death,
whereas eating of the tree of life brought life.
For God to then execute Adam and Eve he would have been breaking one of his own laws.
This is why the angel guarded the access to the tree of life.
It was not that Satan hated us in the beginning, it was that he wanted our worship.
Satan's hatred didn't come about until God thwarted his plan.

A&E could eat from the tree of eternal life, it was the tree of good and evil that angered god. Also, it wasn't Satan that temped Eve. Nowhere in the bible does it say that. All it says is that it was the serpent, the cleverest of god’s creatures.

I used to be a Christian, and since "once a Christian, always a Christian", technically I'm allowed to answer this one...
Why would God put something within reach and then say "Now don't touch this?" Humans are naturally curious. That's like putting a cookie jar in a child's playpen, saying "don't touch that", leaving the room, and expecting the child NOT to touch it.
If the story of Adam and Eve were true, then God set humans up for failure.

sorry i couldnt resist coming here.
but this story is confusing. why would god put a tree in the middle of the garden and tell them not to eat it? he put sin right in front of our face and god knowing us should know that every human has an instinct to sin. so satan was just the icing on the cake to give humans the disease of dying. thats dumb. we were never meant to live eternally. face it.

Well... satan's whole idea was to get her to Sin.
It occurs to me that saying "Question For Christians Only - All Others Stay Away?" is the best way to get all annoying answerers to come and add their opinion or lack thereof.
I suppose your question is case in point.

If god loved us why would he let a serpent stay in a garden to temp us with the forbiden fruit. He could've seen if would've done it by ourselves instead of having a serpent that could swallowed them whole. Of course I would've been scared and done what it said.

pffft! i'll answer what questions i please.
your god hates competition even from his puny human creations. in your fable your god (who was a plural entity at the time) kicked the original pair out of Eden because they had become like "God" knowing good from evil and he didn't want them eating from the Tree of Life lest they become immortal and an even bigger threat to his power holdings. how strange that an omnipotent super being would be so insecure that he can't share knowledge and immortality.
stranger still that a mere snake can screw up the plans of an omnipotent super being.
