does this name/title apply to people who demo a product/service in other industries? (i.e. say Rollerblade hires people to informally demo. their products in the natural environment back in the day: is it the same title?)

"Pullers" are people hired to play slot machines but not by the casinos. When a progressive slot machine indicates that the odds have changed in favor of the players, savvy people hire pullers to monopolize those machines until they pay off.

"Shill" is the generic name for someone hired to pretend to be an ordinary customer. People who merely demo a product are not shills unless they pretend to be satisfied customers who are using their purchased products. They are called "pitchmen" ( or women, I suppose ).

A shill is a person who plays the casino's money and gets paid an hourly wage.

A proposition player plays their own money and gets paid an hourly wage.

Are you thinking of a shill? Or a prop, perhaps?
