to follow all the traditions of the church, christenings, weddings, funerals, nativity plays and christmas carol services, but not believe in god?
I kind of suspect that most people in britain do this.

my point is that the christianity thing is so ingraned in to school and culture, it is more about your community and family than any kind of god worship

no a atheist doesn't believe in god but it's a part of tradition why we do this, a atheist would have their child christened but they might go to a friend of family members christening to show support and love for the baby, funerals the point their isn't god but mourning a loved ones death, weddings i got married as i loved my husband and wanted to make a commitment to him, i got married at a registry office though, atheist's might go to a friends wedding to celebrate the day with them that's all, a atheist who gets married in a church is a bit hypercritical.
when i was younger i was in a singing group and sung carols to people at Christmas but not all carols are religious such as jingle bells.

Most claimed Christians know very little about their own religion beyond the fact that there's some all-knowing, all-seeing, guy in the sky, watching you, and making sure you follow the rules. People believe what they are taught since birth, and don't go beyond the fairytale, and discover for themselves what religion is really all about, (money, and power over the poor and uneducated.) To simply go thru the motions of religion, and have no real beliefs is mostly what everyday Christians are doing.

No. An atheist does not believe in god. A christian does.
You can be an atheist that follows christian traditions, but not both.

Believing in a guy that has no data hinting he actual exists is an act of religion. Atheists do no longer probable do the full faith element. Plus, maximum Christians will argue that believing interior the divinity of Jesus Christ is crucial to being Christian.

I doubt there are really all that many people who ACTUALLY believe in God. It's just a nice mythology. If anything, most are agnostic, many are probably exactly as you describe.
I guess I was an atheist Christian as a child and still participate in a lot of the traditions. How can you not in the US?

No. Christianity encompasses both beliefs and practices; you can go along with all the practices, but if you don't have the beliefs, you aren't really a Christian. An atheist, by definition, doesn't have the beliefs.

Christian and Jewish services are somewhat interesting. I have been to both.
I have also enjoyed the stories of the Greek, Norse, and Roman Gods.
So, I would be a Christian/Jewish/Greek God/Roman God/Norse God/ atheist.
So, it would appear possible. Or are you trying to promote a Christian atheist?

Very interesting... star!
I see what your saying, their culture, ethics and morals are that of a Christian, just becuase that is the way they were raised, but they don't neccissarily believe in God.

That seems to be the case. I can't justify my desire for a traditional wedding anymore than I can justify wearing clothes.
