Sorry, I know it sounds really lame, but we're doing dinner and I'm afraid we'll run out of things to say....

Thanks everybody for commenting...and for those of you that said things like "You shouldn't be dating someone if you can't think of something interesting to talk about" : We do talk about lots of interesting things, I just don't want to have an awkward pause momment. :)

It's called listening, - do that and you'll have a clue.

And if she's not forthcoming, - just make idle talk about the traffic, weather, or current events.

And don't feel uncomfortable with a "pregnant pause"

Talking about various things can be really good - work, family, education, politics - but these things can also be really bad. I think if you have a conversation with someone, then that really is key. If you run out of things to say or feel that you are running the whole conversation, then this could be a bad sign. Remember - looks fade faster than the brain or the voice!

Ask about the best holiday they ever went on, (and find out what they liked about the holiday.)

Ask about the first boy-girl party they ever went to, and what went on that was funny ( get an insight into their background away from their families.)

Ask about the best book they ever read

Ask what is the best concert they ever went to, and discuss what you like about music

Just to mix it up , ask about the worst now and again too! Say, after you hear about the best vacation, ask what the worst one was and why

Good for you for trying to keep things moving along. With a little planning, you can have a great time, and find out a great deal about the other person, without being intrusive and rude. You can then determine from the answers if there is any point on many more dates.

Career topics r great, ur interests, Where u traveled and would like to travel. ive found that if the two click, any topic can b carried on throughout the date.
If uve met before it should b alittle more comfortable, but first dates can b awkward.

I can surely tell you what NOT to talk about--ex-boyfriends/girlfriends. Total turn off for guys and girls. Other than that it's fair game, talk about anything and everything. That's the only way you can get on your way to knowing somebody. To be vague, you could talk about work, school, family, friends, what they like to do for fun, etc...Please let me know if you need some more specific advice! Good luck!

Well I'm a guy so I'm having difficulty getting my head round this one. I usually listen to what she has to say, ask her questions and talk about emotional things. Women like that.

As a guy? Well I don't know, whatever really. Sorry, that's not a very good answer!

Be yourself and talk about what comes up naturally. All the supposed 'rules' to dating really don't work. The best way to see if you click with someone is by showing your true self.

You could always talk about interests you share.

ie. Movies, Games, Sports, Cars, ect...

Or like it was mentioned before...childhood stories, funny things that happened in your lives, family and their funny stories. :P

Anything that can bring up a good laugh is always good on a first date.

Just try not to talk about things like marriage, kids, stuff like that. THAT HAS NO REASON TO BE BROUGHT UP ON A FIRST DATE.
