I'd like to buy a car but am not a mechanic so have no way of knowing if there's anything wrong with the vehicle.

I will give you a link to the free used car evaluation program. It's designed to help people like yourself who don't know much about car buying. Take it to a mechanic you trust and have them look at the car. Then you can decide if you want the car or not.

Ask the seller if it would be ok to take it to your mechanic to have it looked at. If they say no. stay away.
