I have had this schnauzer for several years, and it is quite territorial. I was thinking of getting a cat, but I am unsure weather this dog will be okay with it. Any suggestions?

it depends on the dog. i have a miniature schnauzer and two guinea pigs and whenever i take a guinea pig out it seems that my schnauzer is interested in it but never tries to harm it. also if the dog is good with other dogs then it might be okay with a cat. if you don't have a miniature schnauzer yet but want to get one i suggest getting one thats really young that way if you have a cat around it too it will get used to it while its young and may even grow to like it.

I have a mini schnauzer and I use to have a couple of hamsters. He didn't mind at all when I took them out and let them run around. What I would do is put your Schnauzer in a crate and borrow a cat from a friend or another animal species and put your dog right where he can see what the animal is doing and see what he does. If he acts aggressive then I would suggest not getting a cat. If he just acts friendly and curious then you should let him out and see what he does with the cat. But don't let him out if he is acting aggressive. My dog never had a problem with other animals on his territory (except squirrels and leaves).

I have a miniature schnauzer puppy. So far, he hasn't been territorial at all. We have been bringing other dogs and animals into the house to get him exposed at a early age. Hopefully he will continue to be the same.

I would try bringing a cat around your schauzer for small incraments of time, just so it won't overwhelm him. After you take the cat away, give him/her a reward.
