And do you set out an extra plate for him at dinner? I was wondering who else does. My husband thinks I'm crazy for leaving Him a present and setting out an extra setting for dinner.

While what you are doing may seem silly to others, if it helps you to remember that Jesus is whom we believe in and follow then why not do it.

Personally, around this house, we make sure that we re open his gift to us and really take a look at just all that is inside the gift Jesus gave to us.

Inside the box of salvation is so much.

First we see the owners manual. The bible.
When that is a bit daunting to read and understand, we have the church as our technicall support.
available 24/7 and always there to help us understand and make it through all that the owners manual has in it.

Next, we find forgiveness for all our sins, not just the ones we can think of.

Then there is all the grace and mercy that we are given.
Finally at the bottom of the box is the Holy Spirit, given to us to show us the truth and the light.

Now that is one very full box of gifts, that while free of charge, costed Jesus his very fleshly life. and he did it willingly for us and us alone.

Well, aside from December 25 being a symbolic date and not the actual date Jesus was supposed to have been born on (what with Middle East shepherds only tending their flocks in the spring), it's not THAT odd.
Wiccans and other neo-Pagans do the same for their deities and ancestors; ancient pagans did it for spirits, ancestors, fairies and gods; and there are even cultures that do the same en masse, like Mexico's Day of the Dead and the various Shinto holidays.

My suggestion would be something symbolic; a letter, a religious object, or something of that sort.

I take an angel off of our church's giving tree at Christmas. On the angel is a little boy or girl's name and what they want for Christmas in general or their shirt sizes or something like that. We always get a couple of those and give the presents to the poor little kids who are waiting for Santa Claus when "Santa" can't afford any presents.

You're kidding right? You'd get him a giant cake, but he's not here in the phsycial form, now is he? You celebrate Christmas and try to feel good, that's how give him a birthday present.

I always leave milk and cookies.

For those who say he's not real - how do you explian that the milk and cookies are gone in the morning?

Seriously, I'm wth your husband on this one. I understand your angst at the commercialization of Christmas but an unopend gift? Better to honor him with a donation to a local foodbank or snowsuit fund. "Whatever you do for the poor, you do for me" (I'm paraphrasing)

Gold, frankincense and myrrh. Pork sausages wrapped in bacon as a turkey garnish might be less of a good dinner idea!

I believe the greatest gift we can give Jesus is to love His children. What Jesus taught most was to love one another, to learn to see one another through His eyes. No matter where we come from, how different we seem to be, what "skeletons" we may have in our closets, all are loved and cherished by God. Our greatest gift to Him is to learn to love one another as He has loved us.

Wiccans are known for giving many special gifts to deities, and past prophets. Sounds wiccan.
