the mole isnt itching or sore, but it does have an outer area of redness around the black, does this sound like it could be dangerous or may just be that its has been knocked as it is raised.

From what you're telling me his mother probably had breast cancer... and it metastasized in her bones.

My mother died and was in the exact same situation as your boyfriend's mother.

All I can tell you is that if a parent has / had cancer, then yes, you have a greater risk of getting cancer than if you did not.

HOWEVER. Just because a parent has / had cancer DOES NOT mean you *WILL* get it.

Please try to calm down. Cancer does not just "show up" in one or two days. My mother had cancer for 5 to 10 YEARS before she was diagnosed. The lump was fairly large, and it was advanced / aggressive as well.

Take the weekend to calm yourself and your down and go to the doctor on Monday. There is no point in worrying. Don't self diagnose. It just stressed you out. He'll go for tests and if it is cancer (I doubt it is), you can discuss treatment options with his doctor or an oncologist.

Also, always get a second opinion.

Take care, and good luck!

Skin cancer can be very scary fortunately it is very treatable. Melanoma which is the most aggressive and the most deadly is also by far the rarest. And is rarely seen in teens and children. I would contact your dermatologist on Monday and get the mole checked out but more than likely it is just a mole that has been irritated. My father had over 300 cancerous growths removed and although he did pass away a year ago it was not the result of the skin cancer. Hang in there.

Stop jumping to conclusions.
Doctors do what is called a pencil test; compare the size of the mole to a pencil eraser head.
Over the past year has the mole grown from small to large ?
Secondly Moles are easy to remove and once done its over with.
Yes Cancer may run in families but with good health and checups and going to the doctors you avoid that outcome.

This mole does have the potential to be cancerous. He needs to have it checked out. Having moles is a genetic indicator, as well, they are closely related to sun exposure. Check the ABCDE's
Asymmetry-uneven side to side
Border- irregular
Color-various from tan to black, brown, blue, white or red
Diameter-greater than a pencil eraser
Elevation- raised above the skin surface.

Your boy friend should see a dermatologist who can decide whether a biopsy is necessary. He should not put this off as melanomas are treatable in early stages. In later stages the odds are much less favorable.

Sun exposure is the chief cause of melanomas but there is also a genetic component in some families. To repeat, seek medical attention promptly.

growing moles are dangerous.
irregular borders is dangerous.
brand new moles are suspicious.

bleeding moles on leg, may well just be he rubbed is mole against his pants or something.

While things like breast cancer are certainly genetically linked, skin cancer and breast cancer are not related to each other as far as I know.

Yes this IS a mole your boyfriend needs to 'worry about' ... but if he gets it 'looked at' in the next month, and it's SURGICALLY removed, he should be FINE. What you described sounds like a Malignant Melanoma, but it's still 'small' (between a dime and a nickel in size) ... but DO INSIST that your boyfriend see a 'surgical dermatologist' within the next month ... and GO WITH HIM.

Worry is not going to resolve anything but please have your boyfriend see a good dermatologist immediately and have him contact the physician who took care of his mom in order to get the full details regarding her illness and death. I know it seems easy for me to tell you to stop worrying but if you don't take control of your emotions you could cause "yourself" to become ill.
I wish you and your boyfriend the very best!

Dont worry it can be hereditary but think about it if you did biology then you would know that the gametes for the genotype and phenotype your family and your genetic makeup may just be a recessive trait.
