Each school district sets its own age requirements for public school entry. Pre-K is often private, so each provider sets his/her own rules about age.

Depends on where you live. We are in Illinois and the public school has Pre K for 3 and 4 year olds, but they only take those considered "at risk." They usually hold screenings in the late Spring and early Fall. In our community, the child has to be 5 years old on September 1st to go to kindergarten. The private schools are a lot better about the birthday cutoffs. Be careful if you plan to use private preschool and then public K. Even if your child has completed private preschool, he or she will still have to be the right age to start K at the public school. Good luck!

Usually pre-k is age 4 and kindergarten is age 5. Private institutions may take a child sooner if they show that they are capable of doing what is asked of them. Many private pre-schools will take children from 2 who are already potty trained. Check with your local school board for specifics in your area.

my daughter is 4 1/2 and in pre-school and my neighbor's child is only 3 and in the same class. Is your child potty trained? That is something that all of the programs look for.

different areas have different standards so that depends upon where you are. If you want the child to have a head start in school, go to starfall and let them play the games there as they are educational and fun as well for kids.
