I would have re-enlisted when this war first started if they would have me.
To he who asked about the 'desertion rate', here it is from
1997 to 2004. I notice that the number of desertions is less in 2004 for all services and Air Force is lowest.
An individual can be absent for one hour and be charged with desertion. On the other hand, a military member can be absent without authority for 50 years, and the crime may only be AWOL, under Article 86.

Each year is followed by the number of desertions:

Army
Fiscal Year
1997 2,218
1998 2,520
1999 2,966
2000 3,949
2001 4,597
2002 4,483
2003 3,678
2004 2,376
Air Force
1997 26
1998 27
1999 45
2000 46
2001 62
2002 88
2003 56
2004 50
Navy
1997 1,858
1998 2,038
1999 2,485
2000 3,255
2001 1,619
2003 Not Available
2004 Not Available
Marine Corps
1997 1,375
1998 1,460
1999 1,689
2000 2,019
2001 1,310
2002 1,136
2003 1,236
2004 1,297

I'm an old sailor. But I did serve eight years with Fleet Marines during my career. And I volunteered to come back to active duty from the Retired List three days after the attack on America. Unfortunately, Federal law bars even officers past a certain age from exercising that option. The sole exceptions are flag and general grade officers and physicians.
As for our current President, I believe he has done a credible job considering he has had to face more political sniping, in my memory, than any other President serving during a period of war. And I served under seven Presidents.

I would be willing to fight again for my country even if Hillary Clinton was President; what does the President have to do with defending your country? I am not an old soldier I am an old former Marine.

Edit: Funny how many No's show up right after the question is posted and willing to bet not many old soldiers either.

I would fight again for this country if able under Bush. I would not serve under Hillary just as I would not serve under her Husband. They have a habit of cutting a soldier's legs out from under him and leaving him stranded without back-up.

No. Why d'you think the desertion rate is up now? No one wants to be played for a fool, by a fool, especially if it costs you life, limb or mind.

Btw, it's not Bush's war -- it's Karl Rove's war. Joe Goebbels Number 2 was real good at selling us suckers one hell of a tar baby mess. I hope Satan has cooked up a nice hot spot for him in the next life.

(I was 1-Y -- bladder tumor -- in the Vietnam years... my war, and another one that got a real slick marketing job. My best friend and my favorite cousin died over there. Names on the wall, with all the other Americans who died stopping the Commies from landing in San Diego... the ones that weren't hiding under the bed here at home, that is, selling us out like those liberal bastards did in 1918 Germany. We were stabbed in the back, by Jane Fonda and Joan Baez! Sob!)
