First of all, when is the best time and season to visit New York? Im from San Diego and planning to visit NY from 1/9-1/13. What type of clothes should I wear to keep myself warm? Will it likely snow during that time? Where are some good places to visit? Im also into hip hop and sports and would like to know some good shopping spots. Thanks!

Right now is the best time to visit NY. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas is great. They just lit the tree at Rockefeller Plaza this week. The stores/streets are all decorated and the city is pumping with life from tourists and shoppers. Too bad you are coming in January - but at least you are coming!

It is winter. You need to bundle up. Bring a puffy jacket/scarf/gloves/hat. Wear layers. January is always steadily chilly - will probably be in the 30s or 20s. You may see snow but Manhattan usually gets a bit less than the outer areas. It doesn't snow as much as it used to, but we do get some whoppers now and then.

For shopping you can check out NikeTown on 57th St. (between Madison Ave. & 5th Ave.). There is a big NBA store on 5th Avenue at 52nd Street. These are walking distance from each other and you can also enter Central Park in that area and walk around (keep walking down 5th Avenue past Tiffany, Trump Towers and the Plaza Hotel and you will run right into Central park at around 60th St. The bridges and lakes in Central park look beautiful in winter time. There is also a skating rink within walking distance of where you will enter. You can sit around and people watch.

It's the best city in the world. Have a ball!

If you live in San Diego, and you don't care for being cold, visits NYC May through September, when the weather is nicer, although it gets bleeping hot on the East Coast in July and August. Otherwise, bring a good heavy coat and good warm clothing.

New York is the greatest city in the world, you'll enjoy yourself and have fun. Bring a warm jacket, it'll probably be no higher than 40 degrees.

If you enjoy sports, the Knicks & Rangers play at Madison Square Garden (33rd St & 8th Ave)
