ok, so here goes. my daughter was sick yesterday, this being her second day.

at first we believed she had a little cold, coming into cold season, even though we live in california.

however then her main concern was how bad her throat hurt, when she swallowed when she talked even when she took a breath, it pained hre throat.

so then we thought she could possibly have sore throat.

however only a good 15 minutes ago, i took her tempature, and yes you guessed it she had a tempature.

one ear said 104.9
the other said 104.6

i believe your supposed to take you child to the Dr's at 105!?

is this true?
what do you reommend? shes had plenty of fluids and rest all day, but it makes me nervous because i have work...

thank you for all your help

ps she is 12 years old.. if that helps.

Main thing now is to phone the Doc. Then get the temp down by reducing the heat in the bedroom. Leave most of the covers off but not all as that will make the body react to the chill and retain more heat. Give her some water to sip or if that's too sore give her some ice to suck, some will go in. Wet a face cloth with warm water and put it on her head and wrists, neck and any point where you can see veins, to take the inner temp down keep doing this to make the heat dissipate through her damp skin. A tepid bath will also make her more comfortable but don't let her get chilled by staying in it till the water is cold. A temp that high in a baby does happen often and may not be too serious but in an older child it is.

At the least your daughter needs a rapid strep test. But the differential diagnosis includes numerous viral infections (mostly non-specific but includes mononucleosis), and an often overlooked infection caused by Arcanobacter hemolyticum.

The test for mono doesn't become positive until the person has had symptoms for about 6 -7 days, so the doc may not order it right away. A. hemolyticum requires a throat culture, and does not respond to penicillin.

Definitely see a doctor soon, like today.

Please take her to the Dr right away. That high of a temp is risking kidney problems! Get her on some Tylenol or Advil right away and have her checked for Strep Throat or associated ear infection...it is probably Strep. That tends to cause very high fever with terrible throat pain. Please don't wait with a fever that high!

Firstly as a parent you are going to worry that is normal and dont think you may be overreacted thats also normal! it would be advisable to take her to the doctor even if it is a normal cold its better to check also even if it is a cold your doctor will be able to give you lots of advice on a speedy recovery:) Good Luckx

sounds as if she may have strep throat. you should seek medical attention. my personal belief is that if a temp goes over 100, you should go to a physician, because it may be a bacterial infection. she may need antibiotics.
TAKE HER TO THE DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY.

well i would go take her to see doctor as high temp can caused convulsions, which are very serious, could be tonsilities, coz that can affect the ears and throat and make you sick,
