They can live in to their teens, most small breeds can. The larger the breed, the shorter its life expectancy, generally.

A good age for a Yorkie would be anything from 13 years old, but they can live in to their later teens. They're probably just pipped to the post of longest lived pedigree by Chihuahuas, who frequently seem to live in to their late teens.

My Yorkshire terrier lived over 18 1/2 years. It just varies on how well you take care of him/ her.

My Yorkie just passed away on the 14th of May this year. And he lived 18 1/2 wonderful years. Just take really great care of your Yorkie and he/she will live a long life.

Generally speaking...

small dog = longer life span
large dog = shorter life span

I had a mini dachshund that lived to be 16.
I knew a guy who had a great dane that was 7 and was quite literally on his last legs with old age and bad hip dysplasia.

My Yorkie is still alive she will be 15 years old on the 10th May 2015, her name is Sophie and I love her to bit s she my best friend.
