I've been home sick in bed all week with a bad head cold. My dog won't leave my side and lays in the bed and couch with me. Even when I get up she follows me and stays right by my side. Does my dog know I'm sick and that is why she won't leave me alone? I want to belive that she senses Mommy is sick and is trying to comfort, but my guess is that she's feeling insecure because things aren't "normal". Also, can she catch my cold? I don't think dogs can catch human colds.

Dogs immune system is different to humans and are not susceptible to the same viruses.

Dogs are pack animals and you're the pack leader. Also, you're in bed not moving around... you're another warm body to snuggle up to. lol

Your dog does senses that you are sick and wants to be by your side . Dogs can't catch the flu or cold from humans.

Very very few things can be transmitted from dogs to humans or from humans to dogs. Worms and ringworm....maybe there are more.

I think you're right, your dog is worried for you and for herself. If you are sick, then what will happen to her? My dog does this too.

Don't worry about it. She's just being a good foot warmer.

Dogs are very good with understanding their owner. I swear when I was sad my dog even knew it. I love dogs.

But no they can't get sick. Not from you.
