3 days ago i took her temp. and it was 99 today i took her temp and it was 97-98. Whats the deal? I thought if they where below 100 they will be giving birth in the next 24 hours. That night I stayed up all night to see if she was going to deliver. LOL...anyways, can it also be the thermomter? I bought it at walmart for $4 dollars only. O yea, if your going to tell me that I shouldnt be breeding dog, go somewhere else! I dont need your negative comments. I did my homework on breeding dogs.

Day 57 is a great day to go in to the vet for an x-ray to count pups. The vet also may be able to let you know how calcified the pups are and whether they look ready to be born (I had a great repro vet who could tell within 24 hours on day 57... she'd say "3 more days" or "1 more day" .. with one litter she said "go home, they're coming tonight" and she was always right).

You may wish to invest in a new thermometer.

Your dog could infact be in labor, but you should consult a vet. Pregnant dogs can often get a disease called Eclampsia, or better known and "Milk fever". Not eating and laying down or acting weak can be signs of this. Other signs include pacing, aggressiveness, fatigue, increased/lowered heart rate, etc. If not treated right away, there is a high probability she could die. Call the vet right away and check to see whether infact she is just in labor, or if she has come down with this sickness. Best of luck!

When it drops below 99 and stays there, she should be ready to whelp within 12-24 hours. She is kind of early. Hopefully it is a false alarm and she will not whelp for a few more days. I hate to see mine go earlier than 60 days Good luck with the litter.

There is a vet service on line. Cost you about 8 to 15 bucks. Usually answering fast. Try them. Good luck.

Well the dog will give birth whatever the day. I hear it's important to give them their space, so try not to watch the dog all night or whatever or interfere with her giving birth. It's in their instincts so they know what to do. Good luck.

A textbook isn't always going to reflect nature.
Before you say I'm negative, go to your local animal shelter this afternoon and see all the dogs they have there. Ask to see the euthanasia room.
Do you still have a good reason for breeding your dog?

If your 57 day pregnant dog is giving birth now, none of the puppies will survive, canine pregnancies are full term at 65-67 days......You might want to talk to the vet. Make sure everything is ok.

Did you try calling your mentor and asking them? You do have one right? All knowledgeable breeders have one, even if they've been breeding for 50 years...
