My cat had an abcess, then the swelling went down, now he won`t eat or hardly move, I believe he`s dying. But we have no money to take him to the vet. Any ideas?

Do you happen to know the dosage for Amoxicillin for cats??
It is not the best antibiotic for abcesses either. The cat REALLY needs to see a vet!!!!!
MOST of you have ZIPPO idea!!!! The dosage for cats is 50mg twice daily!! (for an adult cat of about 10 pounds), NOT 250. NOT 20.
WAKE UP Sparkles!!!! I quoted the SAME dosage!!! 50mg TWICE daily = 100mg TOTAL for the day!!! They got 110mg for an 11 pound cat!!!!!!!! If you do it once daily, that is 100mg, twice daily, that is 50mg per dose. For more proof, lets us look at Clavamox, one of the most popular antibiotics for cats. The cat product is 62.5mg/ml. Most cats get 1ml twice daily, which means they get 62.5mg twice daily. Of each 62.5mg, 50mg of that is Amoxi, and 12.5mg is Clavulanic acid. SOOOOOOOO...if you were giving the Amoxi ONLY, you would be giving a 10pound cat 50mg twice daily.

I am surprised the vet won't answer a few questions over the phone. Try a different vet. My vet has helped me with advise over the phone many times. If your ccat is dying the best chance it has of surving is to see a vet. I have heard that some vets will do a payment plan where you can pay it off. Call around and find out as much as you possibly can.

Call a shelter and see if they have a vet that would be willing to see you and take payments.
Do not give medications unless prescribed by a vet. I don't know if your vet would just prescribe medication without seeing the cat (mine won't) but it might be worth a shot calling him and asking. Amoxi for a cat should cost under $15.00

Amoxicillin + clavulanate is commonly used in dogs and cats to treat a variety of infections and its most common brand name is "Clavamox".
Infections treated with amoxicillin + clavulanate may include skin infections, bone infections, wound infections, infections in the mouth, pneumonia and bladder infections.
The typical dose of amoxicillin ranges from 5 to 12 mg per pound (10 to 25 mg/kg), two or three times a day.

Take. Him. To. The. Vet.
Use a credit card.
Ask if you can make payments.
Take him. If he is in pain, or dying, he deserves either treatment, or to be humanely euthanized to put him out of his misery.
Not taking him and self treating him with incorrect doses of amoxil is NOT a loving way to deal with a sick cat.

I would call a vet first. When my cat got declawed my vet gave me amoxil for him which is a liquid form of amoxicillin the bottle says to give him 20 to 40 mg every 8 hours.

You should give him no more than 250 mg, crushed up in a spoonful of milk. If you feel that the cat is dying the best thing to do would be to take him to the animal shelter and surrender him so he can be humanely euthanized. They usually do it for free.

If you really and truly feel he's dying, giving him Amoxicillin won't really hurt now will it?
But yes...you can give it to cats...only I would start with a very tiny dose....and give more as he can tolerate it...
Make him as comfortable as you can. My heart goes out to you...
I have three cats and a dog myself...
