I should have around 300 to spend, I want one thats maybe 8 megapixels and a pretty decent optical zoom...
I like to do things manually, like focus and shutter speed and what not...And I'm a student so anywhere with student discounts would be great!!! And please don't say Ebay, I don't wanna get juiced...

Research cameras on the net, then find at least three models that seem good to you. Then, go to any store that sells those cameras, and try them out (make sure they are plugged-in or have good batteries, of course). You don't have to buy any right then and there, but it should help you figure out what you like. Or, just skip the research, go to the store, and try them all, making notes on which features you like or dislike. Don't forget to think about when and how you're going to use it: a big camera isn't going to be easy to hide or store if you want to surprise someone; night shots might require a more specialized camera, etc.
P.S. "Juiced"? Did you mean "squeezed"?
Or did you mean "squeezed juice?"

How about Canon PowerShot S3 IS. 6 megapixels,12X optical zoom, very good on batteries, image stabilizer, and manual controls.

I personally favor Canon Elph digital cameras. Go to Costco, Walmart, Best Buy, etc. They should have lots of sale prices coming up.
