Do not waist your money on over priced monster cables or any over priced cable for that matter. As long as the cable is 10ft or shorter you shouldn't be able to tell the difference. Also, unless your DVD player is an upconverter or is an HD DVD player its likely that its not going to have an option for an HDMI cable. Your next best option is to use component cables (red, green, blue.) Also since your TV is progressive scan make sure you change the setting on your DVD player if it has one to Progressive. This will let your TV display 480p DVD's instead of the normal 480i. You should see a vast improvement.

This is a list of connection from lowest quality to highest.

Coaxial
Composite (red, white, and yellow)
S-video
Component
DVI
HDMI

You normally have to be pretty experienced and have a very large TV to be able to tell the difference between component, DVI, and HDMI pictures. The majority of devices you are going to be hooking up to your TV are not going to be HD so you will normaly have to choose between coaxial and composite/S-video cables. If you can avoid it, avoid coaxial connections whenever possible.

Your best option would be to use an HDMI cable to your TV from your high definition source - cable box, satalite receiver etc. If an HDMI output is not available from your source, the next best option is to use component (not composite) cables and a fiber optic Audio connection. The poorest choice for HDTV is an S-video cable. Component or coax would be a last resort to get your TV operational while you shop for the right cables.

What you need is a set of component cables. It has 3 connectors on each end, red, blue & green. The green goes on the video connector & the red & blue go on the right & left audio. The coax cable is the cable TV wire that goes to cable -in on the back of the TV.

For the best picture and sound use HDMI cables going from your cable box (sat box) to your TV. These cables are not cheap though. If you still want the quality use component cables and good audio cables.

If you know where to shop:

HD Rated Component cables (3 RCA cables): $68
HDMI cables (carries Video and audio): $39

So HDMI is the better value as long as you avoid the 50% markup on retail cables and the fancy packaging.

If you are going to buy component cables - get ones rated for HD video.

BlueJeans carries good stuff for good prices. Monoprice is cheaper, but you have to read the details to make sure the cables are HD rated.
