That would be pretty funny actually, just imagine obese law makers passing a bill to ban obese immigrants. I love it!

She was denied because she would be a drain on the social health system - NOT because she was obese. Some people can be obese and still be quite healthy. But that is also illegal as well.

Canada used to deny people like that whom they thought would be a drain on the health system until the UN said it was breaking international human rights laws to do that.

Now Canada ONLY denies people for health reasons if they have TB or AIDS or some other communicable health problem. IF they have a health problem that is not communicable, then legally they cannot be denied.

So under UN laws, NZ is also breaking international human rights laws by denying them just because they MIGHT be a drain on the health system.

Any country has a right to not bring in an obvious need for health care unless they can show they can fund their health care themselves. The person in question was 600 odd pounds - we aren't talking about an extra bag of chips or two. There are health costs at that level, and the country has a right to decide if they want to take those on. Apparently New Zealand didn't.

I'm fine with the US considering health costs of immigrants it lets in so they don't become a charge on public health.

No. Who's to say they won't gain the weight back once they are there.

It's a deterrent though, but discriminatory. Although airlines will not accommodate anyone who is obese, either. They have to buy 2 tickets if they cannot fit into one. That one is not discriminatory, because why should the airlines have to change everything at great expense just to accommodate.

I don't have a solid opinion on that. Valid arguments could be made for or against it. But I do get tired of hearing how illegal aliens come here because they are starving, and the majority of them come from a country that places second with the most overweight people (US is #13). They are also second with the most obese people (US is #1).

Yes. LOTS of countries are trying to get rid of citizens they don't want by shipping them to some place where they .... think .... the streets are paved in gold. Like the United States.

Mexico is, by the way, shipping their lame to this country. The folks with Aids I would suspect. More. So.. yes.

I think it was a great idea for New Zealand.
Fat people mean worse health care.
We couldn't do it here because half of our country's population would disappear.

Her Husband isn't a model of fitness either. I think we should give priority to those who come from starving countries. I wouldn't think that letting a 300 lbs man a humanitarian cause.

New Zealand is only doing this, because as an island, they are afraid of sinking, with too much added weight.

Because of their health care, they don't want the extra cost of obesity in their country. And it is their country, if you don't like that law, then don't go. They are allowed to enforce their laws.
