Two cases come to mind: Plessy v. Ferguson and Brown v.
Board of Education.

In the first case, the court ruled that segregation is legal as long as it was allowed equal accomadations. In Brown, a later court ruled that segregation itself can not be equal, thus violating the 14th Amendment. Thus the court reversed a decision that it made fifty-six years earlier.

Don't have the cases---but the supreme court has used the 14th Amendment to justify their rulings and set many precedent cases now used in law.

What about present cases on the docket of the supreme court that will be precedent setting? There are 2 that if heard will be the most important in my lifetime--Docket number 07-680 and 07-681.

Oregon V. Mitchell

Oregon v. Mitchell, 400 U.S. 112 (1970), was a case in which the Supreme Court of the United States held that states could set their own age limits for state elections.

Plaintiff "Oregon" was the U.S. state of that name. Defendant "Mitchell" was John Mitchell in his role as United States Attorney General. Congress had passed an act requiring all states to register citizens between the ages of 18 and 21 as voters. Oregon did not desire to lower its voting age to 18, and filed suit on the grounds that the act was unconstitutional. The Supreme Court found largely for Oregon, in that it found that while Congress could set requirements for voting in federal elections that it did not have the power to set the voting age for state elections.

Roe v Wade. It should never have been a National issue and left up to the states to decide.
