Okay, well I was thinking about getting my sister an acoustic guitar for Christmas because she plays a little but doesn't have one of her own. I can't ask her what kind she wants and stuff because...well, it's for her. She's 5' 7" and I don't know what kind she plays. If anyone could help fill me in on the best kind and what the sizes and stuff are, I would greatly appreciate it. You could give me some sites, prices, and deals if you know any good ones or where I might find some. If I screwed up somewhere in here saying something completely idiotic that all guitarists know, please forgive me because in case you haven't noticed, I know NOTHING about guitars.
Thanks!!! =)

It all depends on her objectives. If she intends to be a serious or Professional then she would look at a whole different line.
Go to a Guitar shop and talk to the Guy. Most of them are Musicians and not Salesmen unlike most other areas of Business so you are not likely to get taken but you can still Dicker. But this is all Pro grade stuff at several Hundred dollars still....$300.00 Min if you are even lucky used....

Take a Musician with you.
Go for a Good Fender or Seagull if you could ever find one...

Older Fender only the F-bodys and Seagulls are very Esoteric and in Demand by Professionals
Very elite and Haute Quality but inexpensive right now....Handmade in Canada
I am fortunate enough to have found one

Go to your local music shop and talk to the assistant. Explain the position. See what is in your price range and what deals are available..(gig bags etc) Look at nylon strung and steel strung acoustic guitars. She's certainly tall enough for a full size. If possible take a knowledgeable friend with tyou who can try a few out. Now the hard part. Take your sister to the music shop and show her what you have researched, and ask her to choose one. I know it takes away the element of surprise but it ensures that she gets the one she wants .Take the guitar home and wrap it up for Christmas. Hope this helps

She's big enough for a full size guitar. If you get something decent, she can play it her whole life. The biggest factor is a SOLID wood top. www.musiciansfriend.com and americanmusical.com and music123.com all sell the Washburn D10S with a case for $260 to $280. That's probably your best deal. The Epiphone Dove is around $300.

musiciansfriend.com is probably just that your friend, all the products on the site are usually carried in store (owned by Guitar Center). Guitars for a guitar player is really a poor gift, the only way you will know if she likes it is if you take her to guitar center and let her try a couple out... For example Ovations are great guitars but I hate them because they have rounded backs that roll off my lap.

yamahas and epiphones are great starter guitars and you can get a decent one for between 100-150 bucks...sizes dont really matter because when she gets good she'll be wanting to play different guitars that come in different sizes anyway (switching from gibson jumbo acoustic to a tiny epiphone lp special 2 for example) .... guitar center is your best bet.. dont buy anything from walmart or target or sumthin
