I want to get one but someone told me they are bad. Is it true?

No. They do not put off radiation like a regular TV does. They don't eat up as much electricity. I'd ask the person who gave you the information what he/she was specifically referring to.

Plasmas are getting better. Earlier models tended to wear out after a few years (gas depletion) and were subject to burn-in on the screen (like CRTs can do). Plasmas are actually rated better for color and contrast specifications. They also display high-speed movements better than LCDs (except for the most expensive LCDs).

One thing to consider, though, when choosing a plasma versus an LCD is the amount of ambient light in the room where you'll be watching TV. Plasmas aren't as bright as LCDs. LCDs also have a matte screen that doesn't reflect as much light as the glass-screened plasmas. So, if your TV is going to be in a bright room, you'll probably be better off with the LCD.

The final consideration is price. Right now, plasmas are about 30% cheaper than LCDs of the same size and manufacturer.

But, don't be afraid to get a plasma just because someone told you they were bad.

No, Plasma TVs are very good. The half life of a plasma TV is around 60,000 hours depending on your viewing it should last 10 - 20 years. And by then you'll be ready for a new TV anyway. They are not the best choice for gaming though due to the fact that they can suffer burn in ( a still image burned into the screen) LCD TVs do not suffer burn in and if you get one with a fast response time 8ms or better there great for gaming.

Warning: This is a warning you are not gonna get from the dealers or the manufactures. LCDs have very fragile, very breakable PLASTIC screens. Screens because there are two. The "inner" screen of my 7 mos. old Sony Bravia 42" is broken. Broken by a 34 lb., 3year old throwing an empty plastic cup. Plastic because it can be and it prevents the screen from being reflective. It also makes them CHEAPER to make. No warranty, no repair. If you have children or children visit, do not buy LCDs.
Plasma have a glass screen like all other TVs except LCDs. Both are cheap to operate depending on where you live: 3-41/2 cents/hour for plasma and 2-3 cent/hour for LCD.
Plasma is better 42" or larger and in dark rooms or basements and for viewing sports. Most plasma brands also have anti-glare coatings. When I can get another $2000 together I will get plasma.

No it's not bad. I believe the rumor is the plasma gas will eventually deplete in 10 years or something ridiculous.

But in 10 years I won't need a plasma I'll have 98-inch super hologram tv or whatever the next hot thing will be.

But while I have your attention. Before you spend a ton of money on one. I bought a 42-inch Philips Plasma for $799.

It was refurbished by Philips. They have great specials all the time. http://www.outlet.philips.com check it out. I refer everyone I know to get a cheaper plasma from there. I love refurbished stuff. I got my iPhone refurb for like $200 bucks when people were spending $500.

My plasma for $799 + free shipping! HOOT HOOT.

That was a march madness sell but they always have good deals either way.

Plasma's have pros and cons. If your not wanting a plasma your other choice for flat screen is an LCD. Plasmas normally have a slight picture quality edge of LCD's however with LCD's you don't have to worry about screen burn in or glare because they don't use a glass screen. I would say unless you are a hard core video gamer and your wanting something bigger than 45in you should def. get a plasma. If your wanting something 42in or smaller LCD may not be a bad option.
