I am getting a new kitten, and I want to try using that Swheat Scoop litter - I don't like litter dust, and I like that this is natural stuff. However, I have heard it can be messy as far as clumping goes...if I don't like it, and I want to change to a cheaper clumping brand, is it really a big deal? Or can I just put the new litter in the box and let him go about his business as usual? Just wondering what others have experienced here... I don't want to have him pooping around the house because he doesn't like the new litter! Although my mom has never had problems with her cats & changing litter.....should I be worried?

Mine have never had a problem changing litter...except when we tried the "crystal" stuff. We have used all kind before deciding on a brad that met our needs. And sometimes, when we cannot get our brand, we have to use another. Never had a problem. Some cats probably do, but not all.

I have never found it to be a problem, but others have. I think it's just luck of the draw!
Probably the easiest thing to do if you're not sure what will happen is to mix some of the new in with the old and see how that goes over. If kitty is blase about it, add more next time, assess, and then go whole hog.
Or you could just do it without mixing first, but you risk kitty wrath which translates to poo on the floor. And/or you could put a second box down with just the old litter so that if kitty turns up her nose at the new stuff, there's a box ready for her to go in. And THEN you would start with the mixing.

OK here is what worked for me. Get a new litter pan. Fill it with the brand you want to switch too. So now have the new litter pan filled with the new brand and the old litter pan filled with the brand currently using. Let it go and see if the kitten uses the newer stuff. if it does no prob - dump the old litter out, wash the old pan and let it dry completely then fill it too with the new litter. Any time you wish to switch litter brands, repeat steps above. I have had the ultimate in finicky and I have had the I don't care cats both and this is how I do it when I need to permanently switch brands of litter.

You can change and usually it's not a problem, but occasionally some cats will not like a certain type of litter, for example some cats don't like perfumed litters or stuff that sticks to their feet. If that happens, change again to something else till you find something they are OK with. And you can always switch back.

I don't think it should be a problem. I foster kitties and get donations of litter so I sometimes use different brands. The cats don't seem to mind at all.

Try mixing the two brands at first then if the cat behaves, continue to switch to the new cat litter. Depends on the cats, all cats are different. I have one male Ragdoll that is picky and my female Siamese don't care what brand it is as long as it is clean.
