I'm pretty sure it is *halaal*, as I know practicing Muslims named "Muhammad."
It probably falls in the same category as Hispanic Christians naming their boys "Jesús."
As for the teddybear, I'm not sure. Just to add something to the mix, if you hadn't heard, the bear was named for Muhammad, a student in the class and not Muhammad the Prophet of Islam.

Yes you can name a child Muhammad.
But naming a teddy bear Muhammed is different.

Yes, its legal in Islamic law.

It seems like sort of a taboo word. Well...I mean...who would name their child God? No one. I guess its a sacre name to the Muslim community. But many people have the last name Mohammed and first name.
