Blasphemy is to speak disrespectfully of God. Taking the name of Mohammed in vain cannot be the same as taking the name of God in vain, unless you actually worship Mohammed. If there is no God but Allah, then calling Teddy-Mohammed "blasphemy" is polytheism. Polytheism and idolatry of a man. So anyway, how is "insulting Mohammed" equal to blasphemy?

Also, if you answer that insulting a prophet is like insulting God, then why is there no similar outrage for insults against Jesus or Moses? This seems hypocritical

I remember in Britain a short while ago a blasphemous musical about Jesus Christ attracting Christian demonstrations. There was much protest in the media and the play wound down due to very poor attendance. (Jerry Springer - The Opera.) There may have been a few Muslims who joined the protests but there simply was not any cry of outrage from the British Muslim population in general. What do you think would have happened if it was Mohammed, and not Jesus, who was being insulted in that opera? No prizes for guessing.

This demonstrates an attitude towards a human that borders on adoration. At the merest whiff of suggestion that his name is not being venerated, mobs pour out onto the streets of Khartoum, baying for a woman's blood. Yet there was NO animal named 'Mohammed'! It was a lump of cloth and wadding, stitched together in a factory that suddenly began to be called an animal by frenzied religionists! A lump of cloth is not an animal! A child's soft toy is not a graven image! No children were being asked to bow down before this toy, or to pray to it! It looks as if the prophet Mohammed enjoys demi-god status with some Muslims. They lift him up to the heavens for all to gaze upon in awe. Who is like unto our Prophet! To question Him is to question God Himself! To disagree with The Prophet's Words is to disagree with God! What, exactly, did this prophet say about playing pretend games with childrens' toys?

We do not worship Muhammad(pbuh) in any way, if someone did then that would be blasphemy. To me and many other muslims I know, naming a teddy Muhammad is not blasphemy, seeing as how there seems to be no bad intentions in the naming. Now again, we do not worship Muhammad(pbuh), but if a case arose that someone openly mocked Muhammad(pbuh) saying things like he was a liar or that he made the words of the Quran up, that would be blasphemous because it would be like calling Allah/God a liar since the Quran, which is believed as the final word of Allah, says that Muhammad(pbuh) was his last messenger. So its not really about Muhammad(pbuh), although he should be respected, its about mocking what he revealed from Allah.

No. It's an insult to the family of Muhammad(PBUH*) and to Muhammad(PBUH*) himself to name an inanimate object or an animal after Muhammad(PBUH*). Muhammad(PBUH*) is the most beloved prophet in Islam and is the final and last prophet chosen by ALLAH(Subhanna wa ta'ala) to show Islam to the people. Muhammad(PBUH*) said in the Hadiths(Bukhari) that man shall not make graven images of animals and other humans because it might promote idolatry and only ALLAH(Subhanna wa ta'ala) has the right to make life and take life away.

it's kinda like sticking an american flag in a giant dish of turd, or ripping up the union jack into shreds. it's disrespectful. plain and simple. you wouldn't like it if someone insulted your grandpa would you?

i don't mind naming my teddy bear mohamad btw, i am a muslim and i'm naming the teddy after my dad who has the same name. no harm in that.

also, muslims are against visual depictions of any prophet, be it jesus, moses or mohamad.

Muslims believe Muhammad was the ideal man and prophet. You don't understand how seriously wrong it is to give his name to a non-person. It's an insult. Don't spout your ignorance of Islam and its culture as something to be proud of.

It's not what you put into your mouth, but what comes out of your mouth that makes you unclean. You know, blasphemy, slander, swear words, talking behind somebody's back, rumors. Just to name off a few.
