Talk to your therapist. Each person has different needs and can function at different levels. I am Bipolar and practice good self care. I have a routine I stick to each day. I don't chastise myself if I do not stay with it but, use it as a daily guide for me.

Working with a therapist is the way to start. In fact, effectively managing the illness means always having a therapist in your life even if it's only a monthly check in. From there, it really depends on your mood phase and where you are at in getting a handle on overall management. Naturally, all the tips and tricks on stress management apply - exercise, diet, mindful activities, not taking on too much, etc, etc.

Keep open communications with their doctor and therapist. If they are not seeing them, then they should start! Whenever their stress level goes awry, communicating with the professionals is the best way to keep tabs on it and to take the appropriate steps to remedy any problems. In the meantime, daily exercise and a healthy diet are other ways to help it out, as well as religiously taking prescribed medication.
