Halloween is 100% pagan holiday.

Halloween is very popular in the U.S.

The U.S consists of about 1% pagan and about 80% christian.

It is estimated that about 15% of Americans do not celebrate halloween.

Why are there so many christian hypocrites?

Even if the 15% who do not celebrate Halloween are all within Christian denominations, that still leaves 65% of hypocritical christians.

I am simply making a comparison to the idiocy of questions regarding the supposed hypocrisy of atheists celebrating christmas.

To the girl who said that its because she grew up with it, not because she believes in it - Thank you.

jimmeisnerjr: You're only half correct. The Catholics hijacked it from the Celts.

Who seriously sits and researches every traditional holiday that you grew up doing. That is depressing. I don't care where any of it came from. I grew up celebrating holiday and I will continue. I didn't steal anything so I am good. I am christian and I take my kids trick or treating because its fun. We celebrate christmas because we always have. Its joyous and a celebration of the birth of jesus ( even though he supposedly wasn't born that day ) I don't care. Its something that everyone does. I don't see how in any way it makes me a hypocrite. I love the Lord and I live my life the way I believe and the way I was raised and I am sorry if that offends you.

The US holiday, Halloween, is not pagan at all. There are many customs and practices that are taken from the pagan observance of Halloween but there are some from Christian background, too. Christians who celebrate do not believe in or honor the purposes of any of the pagan practices. It's not hypocritical for Christians to celebrate.

It's not hypocritical for Atheist to celebrate Christmas, either. If Christmas were strictly a religious observance, it would be. But Christmas has partially digressed into a secular holiday. Still, it doesn't make a lot of sense for someone who doesn't believe in Jesus to participate in a celebration established (from pagan origins) for His birth.

Anyway, as Scrooge would have said, keep Halloween (and Christmas) in your way and let me keep it in mine.

P.S. Merry Christmas

I don't, and never have because my mom didn't let me. But.... I will say that as a kid, it's really hard to be the one who doesn't get to go out and get candy. I can see how many parents could find it hard to deny their kids a chance to dress up and go get candy.

Many people don't see the harm in it. I personally don't like all the negative aspects of it, but I think we've drifted so far from what the original holiday was that it's easy to just go with the flow. It's like asking why athiests celebrate Christmas. It may be a Christian holiday, but it's become more about Santa and getting presents, so I can see how athiests can just go with the flow and enjoy it.

I don't. I hate it. I'm not opposed to changing the holiday to something TOTALY different. The problem I see in churches celebrating , or having a fall festival as they sometimes call them, is that they are all too similar to Halloween. If I had my way we would take the day, call it Hallelujah Day and spend it at church praising God and praying for the lost and our nation. Having Halloween and calling it something else is unacceptable to me. I don't believe "those" Christians you speak of are hypocrites they just don't understand.God bless!!

Actually, you're as wrong as you can be.

Halloween was a Christian holiday (All Hallows Eve, before All Saint's Day), taken over by non-Christians.

Like Christmas is a pagan celebration of the winter Solstice, taken over by Christians.

Ironic, isn't it?

(We talked about this in Seminary in October.)

Godspeed.

I never have, and I am sure there are many other Christian's that don't either. So, why do you clump us together? I'm not responsible for those that choose to celebrate it any more than they are for me in my life choices.

They dont have much holiday. Since their culture is only 250 years old. If you see other cultures in the world .. they are 1000 years old and they have tons of cultural and religious holidays.

christians just dress up and trick or treat. they don't bow and worship to satan or any other gods. They don't celebrate it for a religious reason. it's just a fun time to dress up and eat candy.
