I would go to a Ashram for discourses/sharing knowledge. To express my devotion/bhakti/meditation, I would prefer the place in front of the deity in the temple.

dear blessed one,
blessed love,
nothing is universally applicable.all preferences, priorities r based on our faith&interest. what appeals to yr heart do accordingly.there r various stages of worship.some prefer temples, some ashrams, some solitude, but an perfect realized being is beyond choices& preferences.he experiences the same divine presence in everything every where.

Both have their importance
If I have to mediate & wish to spend some peaceful time then i prefer a quit asharm or a monastery in remote areas not a fancy one.
I rearly get a chance to go to temple, but temples got their own charm, (prachine) ancient temples are quit too, love the arti done in temples, lotus temple in Delhi is amasing, visiting tirupati could be a manace or some highly commertialised temples.''no offence please"
& all pundits are not boisterous.
