I still can't get it in my head, but after taking many online tests I have all the symptoms. But how do I tell my parents I really can't if I tell them they won't care or they will yell at me, telling me to just stop being depressed...but I know I can't do that,

This isn't the family that will take you into loving arms and tell you there here for you they don't understand...I am depressed I've ceased to solcialize and my grades have dropped critically low and now matter how hard I try I can't seem to concentrate or I get really bored and my parents are making me dropout of highschool, If I tell them I'm depressed they'll just think it's an exuse

what should I do?

The same thing happened to me. Just tell your mom you need to make a doctor's appointment for something: you're stomach hurts, you get headaches, etc... and talk to the doctor about it.
They legally can't tell your parents the real reason why you went. If they give you a prescription, just say that "the doctor thought I'd benefit from it".

It's really not as hard as you think. Just get the first step of being diagnosed over with, and they doctor will have suggestions on how to talk to your parents, too.

good luck

I'm in the same situation right now; I'm a senior in high school and just can't seem to keep my life together. I was diagnosed with depression and generalized anxiety disorder four years ago after a suicide attempt, and my parents just couldn't understand. I was forced to stop my medication after only a month, and have been getting worse ever since.

But the only thing to do is get help on your own - I've been (very secretly) seeing my school guidance counselor, and made myself a Dr.'s appointment for this Wednesday in order to try to get new medication to help me.

Sometimes just talking to someone will help (it even keeps me from self-harming myself occasionally), but if the cause of the depression is chemical, only medication is going to help. While it's better to get your parents involved, when that isn't an option (and it sure sounds like it isn't!), you've got to rely on yourself.

If you truly want to get better, research what your options are in your area and do what you can. Talk to someone that legally can't report what you've said to your parents (a counselor or doctor is best, because teachers and other adults aren't bound by privacy oaths). See if there are any free clinics in town if you don't want anyone at school to know what's happening.

The most important thing that you can do right now is SOMETHING. Don't let it get to the point where you've made yourself such a recluse that you don't recognize yourself; try to start talking to your peers, even when you don't feel like it's helping, or if it's incredibly awkward. You can't let yourself get so far into your depression that you don't think you deserve to be better.

It sounds like you still have your mental faculties in full repair - use them! Get out, get moving, and get some help. Once you set it into motion, you will be amazed at how much better you feel already.

Good luck!

If your parents are not going to be supportive and may just make things worse, then I suggest you seek out some help on your own first. Talk to your school counselor or nurse also most towns have a community health center that is free or low cost.
Once you get in counseling and figure some things out for yourself and you have the support of your counselor, then perhaps the counselor can help you talk with your parents.

i would go to your family doctor and ask them what to do. your old enough to be seen without your parents in the room and legally you can go in on your own. Hopefully if you get a medical opinon and ask if the doctor can talk to your parents about it, maybe they will understand better. Its not something loving arms can heal. I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety last spring. I hate when people tell me i shouldn't be sad or depressed because i have so much. I have friends and family and a puppy and a house and a car, and all of that. I would love for that to be all i need to be happy, and i know i'm lucky, but knowing and mentally being able to change how you feel is different. I don't want to freak out and cry over things, i want to be focused, but its not that easy. I'm not on my meds right now because of another medication i went on, i couldn't mix the 2. good luck. But talk to your doctor. Tell him/her its a private matter that you need his help on. Hopefully he can get you professionally tested and see whats goin on.

Hi hon... i'm sorry you are having these issues, and i understand depression very well.

You can make an appointment to talk with your school counselor and ask them to help you talk with your parents... counselors are there to help and have quite a lot of experience in this area.... OR maybe you can talk with another adult you trust and respect for help in talking to your parents.

I don't know your parents or situation, but if you are having problems talking with them, the best thing to do is look to someone who is THEIR peer for help... take care and i hope you get the help you need and deserve right now.

I think that since you are still in school it would be a good idea to talk with someone there. Someone like a guidance counselor or a teacher you have a good relationship with can probably help you out a great deal.

I used to be like that, but then i met Matt. He really changed everything for me. He made me see what life really is and how you should live it. Find someone that you can confide in and talk to. I know what you mean, my parents are so stupid! They wouldn't listen to me and they always believed my brother over me.... how stupid!!! LOL. Just talk to someone other than your parents. Sometimes they answers aren't always at home, they are out in the open!!
