The pope stated as a fact that atheism is responsible for "some of the "greatest forms of cruelty and violations of justice" in history.". What is he smoking? Did he not remember the crusades? Did he not remember the Spanish Inquisition? The witch hunts? All of the torture and murder of innocent people throughout history all in the name of Christianity? How many millions of people were burned at the stake because they were believed to be witches by the Christian faith? They were burned with no evidence, no real trials, etc. What about the Native Indians of Central and South America and North America, who were tortured and murdered to force their conversion? The mass murdering of prisoners during the crusades by Christ's warriors, because the prisoners were Muslim?
Pope Eggs Benedict is obviously off his rocker and has lost his mind. Hopefully more and more people realize the evil that religion actually is, here is a person from the Hitler youth telling you this. Great job.

Christianity is the reason why Europe went through a period called the Dark Ages, and it was only through the work of atheists that the Age of Enlightenment came about. Shame on the pope, shame on Catholics and Christians everywhere, you should stand up and demand he be burned at the stake.

L.C.: You show me one case of religion not being a factor and I can show you 100 of religion being a factor. More murder, torture, maiming is done in the name of religion than has ever been done by atheists.

PETER: Please report me, what are you afraid of? Why is it that when FACTS are brought out and put in your face, you run off to tell on someone like some snotty nosed child? Is it because you can not handle it? Also, with your history, you need to do much more research than that young man.

Iamacatholic2: What crimes by atheists in the past 80 years? Are you meaning the holocaust? Amazingly Hitler was well received by the Pope and the Pope did nothing to try to stop anything. That was a religious crime, not done by atheists, as Hitler was a devout Christian as was the Nazi party being extremely religious (Christian). So if that is your example, you need to do your homework.
Can you point out any other crimes that could even hold a candle, let alone a spark to the massive crimes of Christianity and Catholicism throughout the ages? No, because there are non. So get your facts straight and expand your mind beyond your childish religion, which blames everyone else for all the problems that religion has caused. And really we all know it is just a stupid attempt by the Pope to take attention away from your pedophile priests and crumbling religion.

It is the nature of religion (and politicians) to take credit for everything good, and blame others for everything bad, no matter how absurd.

The crusades killed 500,000 max over a few hundred years....
The inquisition? I don't even know...
And the witch hunts were not sanctioned by the Pope...
The Crusades were agaisnt innocent people? The Muslims were invading Europe and the Christians had enough and fought back.
Actually no one was burned in Salem because they were thought to be witches. If you confessed to being a witch you were either forgiven or put in jail...google it. And besides that, I would say less than 100 people were burned at the stake for the salem witch hunts...
And the church did not sanction the murder of those people....the spanish explorers did...
You need to understand that you cannot blame the Roman Catholic Church (the vatican specifically) for the actions of the Catholic people!!!!
Also...your "eggs benedict" crack was lame...
Reported for ranting.

I find it interesting when some people say that the proven crimes against humanity of the Atheistic Communist leaders for the past 80 years cannot be blamed on Atheism but the almost mythical crimes of "Catholic" leaders 800 years ago should be blamed on Catholicism today.
I ask you, in all Christian charity, to please read Pope Benedict's encyclical Spe Salvi: On Christian Hope before jumping to conclusions: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/encyclicals/documents/hf_ben-xvi_enc_20071130_spe-salvi_en.html
With love in Christ.

Great question, and not sure what is wrong with Peter. Oh, I see it not, he is Christian and can't handle people using their minds.
That is true that the Pope has lost his mind by saying anything like this. He needs to look in the mirror.

the pope is trying to distract you from the vatican's problems while trying to compensate for the billions of dollars they have lost paying settlements for priests molesting children by ostensibly drawing more followers.
