I don't drink and I have no control over the actions of others. I simply avoid drunks in public places whenever possible. Drinking while on or near water is asking for trouble. I agree fully with you on that. Hypothermia and drowning are no joke! Open container laws are in effect in my state and if you get caught by a state patrol boat a DUI test will be given. Who wants to end up in jail while having a good time at the lake?

I work on party boats, and it amazes me how many people purposely get drunk while fishing.
I can understand 1 or 2 just to relax and have a good time, but when your offshore the waves that make you seasick, will get you even worse when your drunk. I can't believe how many people don't realize this.
They will literally pay a couple hundred dollars a person for some of the longer over night trips, then proceed to get so drunk, that they can't fish. And end up wasting all that money on an expensive fishing trip, when it would of been cheaper and easier for them to go down the street to the bar.
Its also dangerous for others on board if the person is drunk. We have gaffs and hooks all over the place since its sometimes 30 people on the boat fishing, It is definitly not the place to be under the influence.
There have even been times we would have to tell the customer he is not allowed to fish because he is to drunk. They get mad at us for it, when its his fault for not using his head and having a little restraint, and puts other customers in danger.
And don't even get me started on all the smaller bay fishing boats Ive seen with a drunk driver. Driving a boat is just as dangerous as driving a car drunk. I only have one word for people who drive while drunk, STUPID.

Well, first off. Were I live it illegal to have alcohol in a boat , maybe it drinking alcohol (I guess it OK if it not opened, like in a car).
It really not bother me, if, they not drunk or throwing empty cans in the water. I guess it OK to maybe drink one or two.
But, I not think many people would drink one or two. I remember years ago, my nephew and me were on the shore. Now this was a big lake, smooth water and only two boats in sight. TWO!!! That all. They ran into each other!!! One guy sobered up when he broke his nose. Even the Game Warden, after he arrived, looked at me dumbfounded and ask; "They were the only two out here"?

I think it has a lot to do with the individual. I certainly enjoy having a few beers while fishing, but then again, I would be extremely aggravated by some drunk guy acting a fool and screwing up my fishing experience. As long as people act like adults, maintain their composure, and don't bother anyone else I see nothing wrong with it.

Dude, yeah there's a problem with it whenever there littering and acting like fools. But hell, I don't see a problem with a couple of chums hanging out, catching some fish, drinking a few brews and trying not to think about there nagging wives. Again, I would see it as a problem if they were not respecting the land and/or not respecting others by acting like asses.

On a Boat: Never.
On the river in waders: Never.
But..............there's something about coming off the stream just sitting on the bank having a little nip of Mr. John Daniels from the flask while reflecting on the day that is just quite satisfying.

drinking while fishing ? there is nothing wrong with doing it.
then, in your explanation, you change the subject. to drinking while operating a boat. that, is another subject entirely.
which are you bitching about, drinking while fishing or drinking, while operating a boat, of which, the latter, is illegal & should be reported.

No it shouldn't be banned, and I don't even drink. Just don't go driving a boat while under the influence-dangerous and illegal.

Boating while drunk is a DUI offense so that already is banned. If someone wants to have a couple beers while they're sitting on the shore waiting for a bite, why shouldn't they be allowed to, even if they're ruining the fishing for you?
