My cousin killed herself at 18 before her sentencing, and I have a friend who killed himself the night before his sentencing.
I also had a friend who went back to England before sentencing and ended up dying shortly after that.
Have you lost any friends or family shortly before sentencing?

It is sad, because many of these people will eventually turn out to have been innocent. The Criminal Justice system has always made some mistakes, and probably always will.

No, I never noticed that at all. Not that is doesn't happen occasionally, I'm sure, but I'm curious where you got your statistics. I'm sorry about your own experience and the losses you mentioned, but that in itself doesn't justify making such a far-reaching generalization.

Can't say I blame them. Prison can be rough, particularly for white collar or sexual criminals. Read this for an idea of why suicide may be a better option than doing time.
