last week a saudi woman was jailed for 9 months and 200 lashings for being raped,now a female school teacher in sudan gets 15 days jail for letting her pupils call a teddy bear 'mohammed'.seeing the leader of the sept.11 murders was called mohammed(attar) and many of the suicide bombers and hate filled clerics are called 'mohammed'what is your problem?cartoons,teddy bears cause jail sentences,riots,etc.but murderers called 'mohammed are accepted.muslims,why?

The majority of Muslims are tolerant and reasonable people. But unfortunately some of their leaders are not and can quickly whip up fanatic mobs with disinformation and misinformation. There is also a sad lack of education with many Muslims in certain parts of the world - they are only educated in Muslim ideas and views so these people are extremely easy to manipulate by religious and political leaders. It was always thus. Every nation has its 'dark ages' - we're just seeing some Islamic states still in the middle of theirs. Frighteningly, some of those leaders are trying to drag the whole of Islam back into a 'dark age'.
If you want to read a tolerant, balanced Islamic view on the two issues you mention, read jouranlist Saira Khan's article in the Daily Mail Newspaper (UK), Thursday 29 November 2007 p5. It is headed, 'Why All Muslims Must Say No To This Outrage'. She's calling for moderate Muslims to protest at the barbaric nature of these appalling cases. The website is all the double-u's, dailymail.co.uk I doubt if her call will be heeded, however, because the only public Islamic comments we're seeing so far are from those who feel brave enough to support barbarity because that makes them look pro-Islamic and they do not fear any repercussions from anybody.

there is no "tolerant" or "sensible" islam. it's a wacky belief for wacky people....much like any other. the more extreme it gets, the more it's going to make sense for a people who's lives and traditions are torn apart daily.
i'll put down even money that it's going to take over the world and the vatican will burn in the flames of righteous indignation.

The woman who was raped admitted that she had done Zina(Adultery) which was why she was alone with that man. She should have been killed had there been 4 witnesses but those men that raped her don't count. It had nothing to do with her being a Shia. She broke the law of Saudi Arabia which states that Muslim women aren't allowed outside without their husband, sons, father or brothers. It is also against Islam for men and women to interact with or mingle with each other unless they are related by blood. She was originally sentenced to 90 lashes but then got 200 lashes and 6 months in jail for using the international media in her appeal to sway the judge's opinion.
2)The reason a child can be named after Muhammad(PBUH*) or one of the other prophets(PBUT*) in Islam is because it is a sign of respect for that particular prophet therefore it is allowed. But if you name an animate object or an animal after one of the prophets(PBUT*) then you are promoting idolatry which is haraam in Islam and Muhammad(PBUH*) is very sacred name in Islam and it's an insult to his name and family.
