new york dose not have a "little dominican republic", but if you travel to upper manhattan (north of 155th street) then you will be in the largest domincan community outside of santo domingo.

I went to Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic two years ago. It was so much fun. The resort was absolutely gorgeous. It's a beautiful country. The cities are kind of I guess what you would call a slum in the U.S. They aren't horrible they are just a little bit run down. The streets are lined with cars and mopeds and dogs. That was really weird, there were dogs every where, they would just sleep on the side walks and in the streets. It was crazy to see bus drivers with beer bottles in their hands while they were driving. The smaller little towns were really cute. They are also were kind of like slums or poorer neighborhoods in America. The houses were all made of that stucco type stuff. There were like beige and tan and yellow, some were white. They were all one floor and had a wooden door. All the windows had these decorative cast iron bars on the windows. A lot of the houses had little porches on the front that were all cast iron. They had little churches that were made of the same stucco. there weren't many cars in the smaller parts of the town, mostly mopeds. Little kids were everywhere. The cities were really busy, cars and mopeds every where people walking. They also had parks with fountains and a few statues, but there wasn't many of them.

Washington Heights.
It is located in upper Manhattan from about W. 155th Street to about just south of W. 190th Street. The main drag is on W. 181st Street as well as named avenues such as Audubon, Wadsworth, St. Nicholas and Broadway. That is mainly "Pequeñito Santo Domingo"
However, if you are on Fort Washington Avenue above 181st Street (nearing the George Washington Bridge), that part is known as Hudson Heights and a lot of people that were displaced with the high rent costs in midtown/upper east or west side Manhattan) have relocated there.
And if you happen to see a lot of Jewish people walking around by Amsterdam Avenue and you figure that to be strange....Yeshiva University (the "Harvard" for Jewish culture) is along the area.

Washington Heights on the West Side of Upper Manhattan - it can be a fun neighborhood but would be better with some inside knowledge or a tour. It can be rough from block to block with Broadway being a big commercial strip there.
Riverside Drive runs parallel to Broadway on the West side and has great views of the Hudson River and NJ.

Santo Domingo may be the capital of the Dominican Republic and the oldest European city in the Americas and if you want to see among the UNESCO World Heritage List then, that hotelbye may be the place. Santo Domingo is a collection of cultures and neighborhoods. It's where the appears of living, domino pieces slapped on tables, backfiring mufflers and horns from crazy traffic. In one's heart of the town could be the Zona Colonial, where you'll find one of many oldest churches and the oldest surviving European. Also, in the Zona Colonial you might find Gazcue, one of many city's oldest neighborhoods, full of previous Victorian houses and tree-lined streets.

yes and no, those type of communities don't exists anymore in New York, but yes between 145th and 207th I'd say 30% of the population is Dominican, and between 181st and 207th it might be around 55%
