the USS. Goerge W. bush (CVN) 77 is the tenth and last
Construction began in 2001 by the Northrop Grumman Newport News shipyard, at a cost of $4,500,000,000, but this number has not been adjusted for inflation or other economic considerations.[citation needed] The aircraft carrier was christened on October 7, 2006, and delivery is set for 2008. She is scheduled to be commissioned in 2009.

The USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) will NOT be a Nimitz class carrier. The last of the Nimitz class will be the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77). The Gerald R. Ford will begin the new "Ford class".

Was going to refer you to the globalsecurities site but got beaten to it. Does it not strike you as a little strange that all the new carriers are being named after politicians. For Pete's sake, what is wrong with them? Politician scum over military people in history. Why can they not be named after sailors, rather than chair based, power-seeking, money making, corrupt scum? Sorry about the rant. I don't like politicians, they create the crap scenarios that the military personnel have to clear up. What an insult to name one after Bush who is a draft dodger, and never NAVY.
