In the second encyclical of his papacy, Benedict urges Christians to put their hope for the future in God and not in technology, wealth or political ideologies.

If so, when will you be tossing your computers out, stop watching tv, stay off the phone, sell your car, etc....

and where does it end?

Yes.

I will follow the Pope's teaching of basic Christian doctrine. Although he is teaching this with new words and a new attitude, he is saying nothing new.

He does not ask us to "be tossing your computers out, stop watching TV, stay off the phone, sell your car, etc...."

But he does say, "If technical progress is not matched by corresponding progress in man's ethical formation, in man's inner growth, then it is not progress at all, but a threat for man and for the world."

I can only say, "Amen."

It will end when Jesus Christ returns in glory.

Here is the text of the entire encyclical: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/encyclicals/documents/hf_ben-xvi_enc_20071130_spe-salvi_en.html

With love in Christ.

Hint: It's usually best to read the source material, instead of relying on Yahoo News to tell you what it says.

This is the encyclical letter (which is his third, by the way, not second):

It depends on the indivdual. Do you know St. Francis, he married the woman of his dreams - Lady Poverty.

Though the Pope is not as narrow minded as you might suggest, I think his God is the only chance for the future especially with all the nuclear weapons: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7119172.stm

How does "putting your hope in God" mean "throw away your TV?"
