why is there so much violence involved? It seems strange that a merciful god would have his people whip people over a word or kill people senselessly. I have been reading on Allah and the word merciful comes up so many times it is like a broken record.

Don't blame God or Allah or whatever for all the blood shed. Humans should learn to accept responsibilities for their own deeds.

Shariah Law keeps the country safe and the society as a whole safe by allowing these types of punishments. It may seem "Barbaric and cruel" to Western people but in a Muslim country ruled by Shariah Law you have no reason to worry about getting killed over money, getting your money stolen, your women getting raped or exploited like is done in the West. ALLAH(Subhanna wa ta'ala) sent down Shariah Law in the Qur'an to guide the Muslims and be the Government of Muslim countries. Saudi Arabia practices the correct Shariah Law. Sudan might as well. Egypt and Pakistan both want Shariah Law as their system of Government rather then democracy.

I think the authors of the Quran were being sarcastic when they called Allah merciful.

Bismillāhir-Raúmānir-Raúeem = "In the name of Allah, most Gracious, most Compassionate".

JUDGE “ ISLAM “ BY ITSELF (QURAN & SUNNAH) AND NOT BY ITS FOLLOWERS.

IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT THE PPL DO WHAT DOES MATTER IS THAT WHAT ISLAM SAYS, SIMPLE IS THAT.

**ISLAM IS PEACE**
"On that account: We ordained for the Children of Israel that if any one slew a person - unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land - it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people. Then although there came to them Our apostles with clear signs, yet, even after that, many of them continued to commit excesses in the land. (The Noble Quran, 5:32)"

ISLAM IS MORE THAN “1400” YEARS OLD RELIGION WHY EXTREMISM IS ASSOCIATED WITH ISLAM NOW & NOT BEFORE? B/C ISSUES LIKE PALESTINE, KASHMIR & CHECHNIA.These all acts are acts of disparity, feeling of deprivation and continuous injustice.

For those who 9:5 in the Quran to claim that Islam is a violent religion.... did you try to read 9:6?
The context of the verse is during battlefield, In order to understand the context, we need to read from verse 1 of this surah. It says that there was a peace treaty between the Muslims and the Mushriqs (pagans) of Makkah. This treaty was violated by the Mushriqs of Makkah. A period of four months was given to the Mushriqs of Makkah to make amends. Otherwise war would be declared against them.

Surah Taubah chapter 9 verse 6 gives the answer to the allegation that Islam promotes violence, brutality and bloodshed. It says:

"If one amongst the Pagans ask thee for asylum, grant it to him, so that he may hear the word of Allah; and then escort him to where he can be secure that is because they are men without knowledge."

[Al-Qur'an 9:6]

So please don't just quote it without knowing the verse before it or the verse after it, without knowing its interpretation and what it refers to.
