I think a lot of Christians are racist. That's why they have a hard time accepting that Jesus was an African American.

Some Scholars believe Jesus was African not African American. As stated above there was no America per se then. Supporting evidence (for Jesus being of african origin) is that Jesus had Woolen hair and that his skin was bronze. these are in the bible. I'd have to look up the scripture but i've seen both references. Also, Jesus was not widely painted as white until the Last supper painting. Many of the early paintings of the Madonna and child are of a definitively dark brown woman and infant. I am typing what i have read by a few scholars and seen in books. I can look up the quotes and sources and get back to ya if you'd like specifics. also, Jews are not white. They are semites. the word semite refers to both Jews and Arabs.

The controversy of Jesus' ethnicity especially black vs white stems from rascism in American. Symbolism was often distorted in America (old south) as a way to show that Blacks are inferior. specifically "blacks can only get in the kitchen of heaven" etc. A concrete example of a relic of the use of religion as a tool of racism and prejudice is (no offense to present day mormons) the fact that the mormons did not believe African American could get into heaven until it was declared by their leader in 1978. You may want to check out for starters Dr. James W. Peebles, Professor Ivan Van sertima, Chinweizu, Professor Cheikh Anta Diop, Walter Rodney just to name a few. Van Sertima has a Journal that he Edits and one of the volumes speaks to this subject in detail.

As far as Christians being racist, just like anyone else they would have to confront those issues and go to the word of God which commands us to love EVERYBODY including our enemies. The question of Jesus being African American upsets most people because of their views of the African American race period. It really doesn't matter, but if you research the bible in which the region Jesus came from, including Moses, Abraham, etc. it was not a region of Caucasian decent (which was Eastern Europe regions). The region was near and part of Africa and Egypt (some considered African, Jewish, Muslim, and such) nowhere you will find that they were Caucasian. Sadly, it's hard for a lot of people to accept. God made us all to become equal in his sight and we must remember what Jesus stood for/his purpose and not who he was as a mere man of color.

Peace be unto you

Are you so politically correct and mind numbed that you would call Jesus an African American? He was born is Israel, not America. therefore, He can't be anything American.

Do I care if He is Black, White, Brown, Yellow, Red, Tan or any shade in between? NO! I do not. I love Christ with all my heart. P.S I try not to to see peoples color but there heart.

Say again? I think rampant political correctness has rendered your question unreadable.

African American? As in he's a decendent of the african slaves brought to america nearly 2 thousand years after his birth?

And I really doubt he was black either. Semitic seems most likely. Where'd you get your info? Got a link to share? I'm curious now....

He was a Jew do you consider Jews to be African American's? I was born in Africa, in Libya but I live in America. Am I African American even though I have light skin?

Just what is an African American if all humans came from Africa then aren't we all African American?

I have never heard that Jesus was African American. But I seriously dought that he was. He was from Israel which would put him in an Arabic race. Christians are less likely to be racist. The Bible teaches us to love "everybody." :)

Uh, Please speak for yourself. I have NO problems with it at all. By the way, I am a white Christian.

God made five colors of dirt. Red, Yellow, Brown, Black and White. There are five colors of folks. Hmmmmm, We are ALL dirt. What difference does the color of the dirt matter? You should love everyone.. No matter what color their skin is.. It is after all ONLY skin.. We love the essence of people. Their soul.. It doesn`t have color.. Let folks stand on their own.. If they prove to be horrible, then, you move on, But by far most folks are the same. We all love, and hurt and want the best for our families..

Peace & God bless from Texas. <><

Where do you get your information from. America was not even discovered yet so how could he be African-American? He was mid eastern - His lineage from Mary leads back to David.

I am totally fine with the idea. If Jesus was black - so what. I, personally, don't think he was caucasian. I believe he was dark skinned. Look at the people who come from that area - they are not white.
