Mine just recently started falling out in like gobs. Mainly when I take a shower or brush it. I dont do anything to it that I havent done for years (color, blowdry, the stuff I use on it). I have been really stressed lately, with the semester about to be over, my job changing, moving, talking to my ex alot, and other personal situations.
What can I do about it short of trying not to be stressed? Will it stop falling out, and will it grow back. Hate to sound so vain, but its the only thing I really like about myself.

Yes stress can cause your hair to fall out. It happened to me. I would cut back on talking with the ex and try to focus on relaxing and taking some me time.

First of all, see a dermatologist. If you have bald patches you may be suffering from Alopecia Areata. Next, are you eating enough protein? If not, get on it. Stop talking to your ex and find a way to relax. Also, ask your beautician if there is anything you can do. You may just need a trim if your hair is really long. Keep in mind that it's natural for hair to fall out, but if it is a lot you should be concerned.

Yes, extreme emotional or physical stress can trigger two types of hair loss.
The most common type of stress-induced hair loss is telogen effluvium. In this condition, severe stress — such as due to illness, injury or surgery — causes large numbers of hairs to stop their growing phase and shift into a resting phase. Two to three months later, the resting hairs suddenly start falling out. In such cases, your hair eventually grows back within six to nine months.
Intense stress can also trigger a type of hair loss called alopecia areata. In this condition, white blood cells attack the hair follicle, which stops hair growth. Within weeks, the affected hair falls out. With alopecia areata, hair loss usually starts as a small round patch but may eventually spread to the whole scalp — and sometimes to body hair as well. Your hair may grow back. But treatment may be necessary.
If you have questions or concerns about hair loss, consult a dermatologist.

Yes. Drink 10-12 glasses of water daily and have a high protein diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables and dairy products. Since iron-deficiency anemia can also cause hair loss, make sure that you eat a well-balanced diet that includes a daily serving or two of iron-rich foods. Check out

Absolutely. I know a woman who lost ALL of her hair ... eyebrows, eyelashes, everything ... due to stress. And it never grew back. She wears wigs now. I did not realize this could happen until I witnessed it first hand.
Please work to resolve your stress. Head to a dermatologist as soon as you can; they may be able to help you.

Stress can effect hormone levels in your body, which can, in turn, cause hair loss. Personally, I'd recommend seeing your physician, as he or she can point you in the right direction to get this stopped as soon as possible.

Yes it can. Start doing things to deal with your stress directly...even if it's scary. Don't ignore the things (signs) that are stressing you out....deal with them.
Exercise helps too.
