My cat got loose a week ago and we finally caught him. He had a massive amount of fleas on him. They were ringed densely around his eyes. There had to be in the range of 100 to 200 just around his eyes, it was disturbing! They are really dug into the skin. I gave him a bath but they didn't come off and I can't tell if they died or not. I tried my best to wash him but it was hard to handle him and not get soap in his eyes.

What should I do and will these fleas come off or what?

Get the poor guy/cat into the doctor. Fleas will take over your house. Have you ever heard of " flea bombing" your house to rid the fleas? Ask a vet about this!

Good luck! :)

Don't bath to get rid of fleas, it doesn't work. The fleas will not be dead.

Please go into a vets to pick up flea treatment. You can get Frontline without having to even take the cat in. You need to wait 48 hours after bathing before you can apply a spot-on however, as you will have washed the natural oils of the skin off. Get a Capstar in the meantime, this will make all fleas fall off within a few hours - but it will not prevent them from coming back, so use Frontline regularly. Even cats that never go outside get fleas.

I don't know where you're from, so I don't know if there's a Kroger around you, but there may be other grocery stores with the same product. I bought this spray bottle that kills the fleas within minutes. My idiot room mate brought fleas into the house with a couch he found. The bottle was blue and it was in the pet aisle. I just coated him with that about three times, massaged it in with rubber gloves, and gave it ten minutes between each rinse. I recommend you do it outside in a garage or something if you have a kitty carrier. And also, if you let him inside with them, definitely get a bug bomb and bomb your house BEFORE bringing the cat back in.. otherwise the process is pointless.

But considering the amount of fleas, I recommend that you visit a doctor if you've got the money. I'm sure your cat is really irritated with this, and the longer you keep it like that, the worse it's going to get. Those things reproduce soo fast!

Wow.... IF you're afraid of soap in you're eyes... Just wear goggles, but washing your cat won't do ****.

The problem here is not the method, its the continuity. Check it: Whenever you shampoo your cats, not only do you suffer from gaping scratches and pin pricks, but also from Darwin's laws of evolution. survival of the fittest deems that it IS POSSIBLE for one or two fleas to survive the bath AND flea shampoo. Once those fleas are reintroduced into the community living in your carpet, they mate. Now, if NONE of the fleas survived, which I find hard to believe, you still need to take the cats out of the element of mating: The entire house. The fleas and their eggs are on EVERY piece of fabric in your home, not just the carpet. Bombing doesn't always help this. In fact, it didn't help at all with my cats. So here is what you do:

1: Put Baking Soda underneath all of your furniture. It suffocates them without affecting anything else and you can leave it under the couch for as long as you like without fear of bleaching or the animals getting sick from it. If the cats do swallow it, the worst that will happen is that they will foam at the mouth and throw up a little. For examples of this, swallow baking soda yourself and send me the video. XD

2: Shave your cats. It can't be avoided if you want to be free of fleas forever. Unfortunately, you will need to pay for them to be knocked out so that they can be shaved . . . Unless of course you are a masochist and enjoy infectious peritonitis. If you are a douche bean and dont want to shave your cats, take them to a Petsmart and have them get a flea dip there. It will be like 35 - 50 dollars per cat. Shaving is cheaper.

3: Wash EVERYTHING that you can fit in the washing machine. Clothes, bed sheets, comforters, everything. Anything that can not be washed in HOT water, needs to be soaked in cold water. This isn't that big a step because as long as your are clean and your cats are bald/flea dipped with a collar (Advantage and Frontline are bullshit cures that dont work and only kill off the weak fleas, making the colony stronger by eliminating the poor mates, and the company knew this when they produced the chemical; how else would they increase sales? Think people, think.)

4: If you find that the fleas are biting you, you are going to think I'm a ******* R-tard when I say this, but, have as much sex as possible. There I said it. Not sex with yourself, sex with another person, preferably the opposite gender. The pheromones and glandular secretions that are apparent during intercourse are loathed by MOST insects (excluding bees and ants), not because they don't like the smell, but because they are naturally repelled by pheromones that are not of their species. Also, if you are ugly, nothing will want to come near you mid-coitus, so film a feckfest why don't you?

5: If you find that you need to bomb your house, you need to do it THOROUGHLY. Open all cabinets and expose all fabric areas. And, for the love of God, if you decide to do it yourself, dont leave the animals there, dont return until HOURS later (not the pittance that the box suggests), and use like 10 of the ******* things. Two or three will not do it. DO NOT VACUUM IMMEDIATELY AFTER BOMBING. In fact, wait a week.

6: If all of this fails, try any of the methods in the posts above, but not before. Seriously, just shave your cats. I know they will look cold, but it needs to be done. They should be indoor cats for that period of time. . . if you are, in fact, serious about getting rid of this problem. if you want to keep the fleas, well, go **** yourself and be an etymologist, you ******* insect lover. Get away from my society and be a turbo hermit.

Yes, you need to go to your vet's office and get the pill that kills everything within a few hours, then give him Frontline Plus for cats once a month. Flea bomb your house. You are probably infested, and there is at least one area outside near your house that is also infested. Make sure your cat does not ever get out again.

Since you already tried a bath, i would reccomend you call your vet and get CAPSTAR tablets. All the fleas will be dead within 4 hours. This is what we use at the shelter I work at for pets that come in with tons of fleas.

Here's info about capstar
http://www.capstar.novartis.us/cat/en/about.shtml

You can also put advantage or frontline on him.

Really the best thing you can do is continually bathe him. I had 5 cats that were loaded with fleas. They still have them, and they probably always will. But with one cat? It's easy to get rid of them. 2 / 3 baths and they will be good. Watch out for carpets they dig in there and wait.

it would desire to alright have a urinary tract an infection...and not dealt with it would desire to die. additionally, a vet will prescribe a flea product this is positioned on the decrease back of the neck. I strongly doubt that the fleas have something to do with the peeing. you should deflea the living house...or they'll unfold like wildfire. Please take your cat to the vet asap.
